"NOAA REPORTS COOL SUMMER, SEVENTH COLDEST AUGUST ON RECORD ACROSS THE LOWER 48 STATES,"
"NOAA scientists report that the average temperature for the contiguous United States were "below normal," and most of flyover country, from Michigan to Texas, was much below normal." The Southeast and Southwest were" near normal."
"NOAA scientists report that the average temperature for the contiguous United States for June-August (based on preliminary data) was 71.1 degrees F (21.7 degrees C) which was 1.0 degree F (0.6 degrees C) below the 1895-2003 mean, and the 16th coolest summer on record," the feds advised.

Does anyone remember when :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Al Gore made his little trip to NY to talk about Global Warming and there was this huge snowstorm that day????????

Global warming happens at such a rate that one summer could be historically cold-- its called a trend line, fellas.

In more important news, Antarctica is melting. Have fun, coastal U.S.A:

Mabye Antarctica melts all the time, then re-freezes. We simply do not have enough environmental data over the course of this planets 20-some thousand years of existance to know if what may or may not be happening to our weather is natural.

Frankly, we can't predict weather 2 weeks from now - why do ppl think we can predict weather 2 centuries from now?

Why is the mere title of the effect taken so literally? Global warming does not require just "warming". Many predict that if there is a climate change the Gulf Stream will shut down and the U.K. will enter a deep freeze.

Assuming environmentalists simply mean "warming" is incorrect. It is splitting hairs with the title of a phenomenon and not the actual details of it.

It is interesting that Warming seems to be the term of choice, but I have heard environmentalists refer to a deep freeze as well, so now im confused as to whether Global Warming actually means the temperature of the earth chaninging in either direction causing weather problems, and crop failures etc?

Global warming probably got its title from recorded rises in the earth's temperature and the consequences that would follow. However, today it more generally refers to climate change that is contrary to the "norm" of the present day and caused by mankind. Yes there are cyclical temperature changes over thousands of years but the question is whether this is one of those or if this is due to man's activities. If it's due to man's activities we should attempt to fix the problem (and actually if it is cyclical then I wouldnt mind attempting to stop it if it disrupts the status quo on the planet. The rational of say not stopping a huge forest fire because it was natural is just as absurd).

Pretty convenient point of view, if you ask me.

If temperatures go up, man (read: America) is destroying the earth.

If temperatures go down, man (read: America) is destroying the earth.
