Agreed 100% here. The current political penchant toward "special rules for special people" has only blown up in our faces no matter which side is pushing it. The 14th Amendment Equal Protection clause means everyone should be treated the same.

As for welfare, our government should always, and only, act in accordance with our Constitution. I know that gets bent out of shape by some such as throwing money at an able-bodied person from womb to tomb is construed as "promote the general Welfare", which it obviously does not.
OTOH, infrastructure and national projects cost money be it the national interstate system or Apollo space program, but such programs also provide a substantial return to American taxpayers. The Interstate Highway system saw a $6 return for every $1 invested and NASA provides a $7-$8 return for every dollar invested.
Getting back to and tying this to the "joke" OP, our government isn't a charity. It should only act for the benefit of those who gave it its charter: the American taxpayer. That said, our nation benefits from the fresh blood of immigrants, always has, and it should continue to do so for decades to come. We need to find a better way of handling this.
