Conservatives have learned to count on the media to consistently print only one side of an issue. It turns alleged news into an editorial.The reporter didn't bother to investigate whether the Indiana GSA was affiliated with "planned parenthood", they just included a meaningless statement by the state GS leader. The question remains whether the GSA has been infiltrated by PP which is in turn an arm of the abortion industry. If so, it's reasonable to question the propaganda that young girls are being fed by the abortion industry.

Well, yesterday, before this all went viral, there were several links of stories about Planned Parenthood materials at Girl Scout meetings, and Girl Scout field trips to PP sites, on the first couple pages of returns when you google GSA and PP together. One mother had formed a separate girls organization because of it.

Now it is all about this guy in Indiana.

My primary reaction to all this has been pleasant surprise that the girl scouts are so progressive.

Per the suggestion in this thread, I have googled "Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood" (without quotes). At first glance they break into three categories:

1) Stories about the Indiana lawmaker's comments.

2) Conservative groups complaining that Girl Scouts "partner" with Planned Parenthood and provide explicit sex ed.

3) Factually inaccurate information.

Here are some truly horrendous complaints from the first site that comes up (http://www.honestgirlscouts.com/):

- Scouts shouldn't be taught about HIV because it doesn't kill as many people as Alzheimer's (an odd standard).

- Scouts shouldn't be taught sex ed because the curriculum is not religious (neither is sex, in general).

- Scouts shouldn't be taught about sex ed because local troops might partner with abortion clinics (not that there's any evidence that any have or would, there's just no rule against it).

- Scouts shouldn't be taught about sex because that decision should be left up to their parent or guardian (who apparently doesn't know they've joined the scouts).
