Gingrich’s Health Care Group Supports a Mandate

If the GOP had really wanted to put mandated healthcare in place, they would have done it in 2001.

That much is true. They're not particularly interested in health reform.

Witness how quickly "repeal-and-replace!" became "...repeal."
.....'Tis true.....

* Under the MMA, Medicare has been significantly overpaying private plans under Medicare Advantage. In 2005, Medicare overpaid private plans by at least 7% per beneficiary, costing taxpayers $2.7 billion. In 2006, overpayment reached 11% per beneficiary, costing taxpayers $4.6 billion.

* Under the MMA, Congress set aside $10 billion for an unnecessary subsidy (or "stabilization fund") to regional PPOs. This year, however, 88% of beneficiaries have access to a regional PPO, before the so-called "stabilization fund" was even tapped--no subsidy was necessary.

* Medicare Part D drug prices are substantially higher than the prices obtained by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which negotiates prices on behalf of consumers. For all of the top 20 drugs prescribed to seniors, the lowest price charged by any Part D plan was higher than the lowest price secured by the VA. Yet Congress refused to let Medicare negotiate directly with the drug companies, as the VA does.

** Bottom line: this report shows that, unfortunately for consumers and taxpayers, the MMA has not even come close to meeting the high expectations set for it by Congress. Consumers are getting hurt and taxpayers fleeced, while insurance companies and drug manufacturers are raking in money faster than they can count it. Congress needs to move away from this deeply flawed privatization model, and instead focus on strengthening Medicare.

If you assume Pubs are up to no good, and the dupes have no clue, you are never disappointed...

Obamacare will be the most popular program ever when implemented, and will be improved forever. Talk of single payer is pie in the sky for the forseeable future. 60% are against, 70% admit they don't know what it is! Pelosi was right, wait until it's implemented. Dems did this to be popular fcs...
Sanders got $10 billion for low cost clinics, there are guidelines for care that will lower tort costs, insurers are limited to 15% non medical spending (now 27%)- finally, affordable, GUARANTEED care for all, and control of costs (everybody but bought off Pubs say so)-etc etc etc. Stop listening to bought off Pub A-holes and their silly drones. Pub dupes are amazing- know NOTHING…

After Medicare was passed a Harris Pol found only 46% of Americans viewed it favorably. After Social Security was passed, few Americans believed it would be of any benefit to most Americans. Landmark legislation is often viewed unfavorable after passage.

Why do we have to have Doctors pedaling drugs when a nurse can do it? Much of the Healthcare system should be restructured to reduce cost. Many people go to a doctor for something that time and rest will take care of their problem without the need to see a doctor.

The preventative method should be for the food and drug administration to stop putting antibiotics in our food animals, stop using pestacides, stop using preservative chemicals, grow local food for market. All industrial pollutants should be eliminated as well as no smoking, overeating, lack of exercise thaty people can do to lower healthcare costs.

A. Obamacare will get you a doctor or low cost clinic to tell you to go to bed, maybe just a phone call- rather than the non insured going to the ER for $1000 like now.

B. So vote Dem and get the FDA riding herd on corporations. EVERY TIME. On the other hand, wait until the bought off Pubs allow a recovery...

To prescribe drugs, you have to be able to diagnosis the illness and nurses are certainly not qualified to do that.

There is a proposal to allow pharmacists to dispense certain drugs without a prescription from a physician. The Food and Drug Administration is inviting comment on just such a proposal. The idea is to add a new class of "behind the counter" drugs that consumers could buy after consultation with a pharmacist.

Landmark or Landmine.

Social Security is about to become a real hot topic.

And it won't be the popularity....it will be the dependency we created along with the promises we have made.

All of sudden, the naysayers from a long time ago are going to look very smart.

Just started into the book The Real Deal...... again.

What a disaster.

And that is written where ?

There are doctors I trust less than nurses.

And I trust myself more than anyone.

If it isn't routine or it is chronic, I'd like a doctor. Otherwise....."Nurse....."

I certainly respect nurses. My wife is one. However nurses are trained to assist doctors, carrying out orders and monitoring patients. They are not trained to diagnosis illnesses. A doctor will check that what appears to be a simple routine problem is just that and not something more serious.

A triage approach in which a lower skill level professional see patients first can reduce healthcare cost. However, that person should be a physicians assistance, not a nurse. A PA is trained to diagnosis illness, order tests and interpret results. They just don't have the in depth training that doctors do.

If you trust the nurse more than you do the doctor, then you should consider finding another doctor.

It appears what you post is a LIE...it goes to ROMNEYCARE...and in your source? The Links didn't work...I did a simple search with the keywords that you highlighted (to be found NOWHERE in your link), but Found it courtesy of the Free Republic back to 2006, and tied to a Washington Post article...

The Center for Health Transformation's page with its plan to insure all Americans is archived: Insure All Americans | Center for Health Transformation

Box One ("Individual rights, responsibilities, and expectations of behavior") clearly states that their plan would "Require that anyone who earns more than $50,000 a year must purchase health insurance or post a bond."
