And why would the GOP want to minimize the only two parts of their coalition that are growing.

In fact, if Romney is the nominee, he's going to have a real problem on his hands. How to placate these two groups at the convention. Particularly the libertarians, who can very well follow Dr. Paul into a third party that will probably pull about 5% of the vote right now.

No one gives a crap about where the evangelicals go! They stay with the GOP or go into oblivion. They know that.

You see, quite the opposite.

I think if the Evangelicals divorced themselves from the economic conservatives and backed guys with traditional values in the Democratic Party, they'd get pretty far. The thing is, the Democratic rank and file is pretty conservative on social issues. Even in a place like California, something like Prop 8 could win.

This is why Huckabee scared the SHIT out of GOP establishment in 2008. He actually had the terminity to say the central message of Christianity is not tax cuts for rich people.

Romney is a frontrunner because the rest of the feild is so weak, not because of his own actions. If he were running against the 2008 lineup, they'd have his lunch.
