Gifts of Christmas Past

We had a great conversation yesterday over dinner and cocktails about Christmas when we were kids.

When you were a kid, was there one toy that you got for Christmas that trumped all the others?

We're only talking about toys, not other gifts and let's keep the age limited to preteen.

For me hands down without a doubt it had to be the Evel Knievel stunt cycle. It was 1973 and I was 8 years old

It was also one of the most well made and durable toys I ever had. I used and abused this toy for several years. I ended up with the whole collection eventually but the original cycle was the best.

When I was around 6 or 7 I got a metallic blue, sting-ray bike. Actually I think my parents just put new handle bars and a banana seat on my old bike but it made zero difference to me. It. Was. Cooool.

Of course that was the year I was sick and had to take that nasty yellow medicine. Couldn't even try the bike out for a week . . . . .
