BBC News - Germany shuts 9/11 plotters' mosque in Hamburg

German police have shut down the Hamburg mosque where the 9/11 hijackers met before their suicide attacks on the US in 2001.

Police said they believed the Taiba mosque was again being used as a meeting point for extremists.

The cultural association that runs the mosque has also been banned.

A German intelligence report last year said radical Muslims had travelled to military training camps in Uzbekistan after associating at the mosque.

"We have closed the mosque because it was a recruiting and meeting point for Islamic radicals who wanted to participate in so-called jihad or holy war," said Frank Reschreiter, a spokesman for Hamburg's state interior ministry.

He said 20 police officers had been searching the building and had confiscated material, including several computers, the Associated Press reported.

There was no announcement of any arrests.

That closed mosque, is backstreet-mosque.
It was a very small community, not related to the big German Muslim Organizations.

- Germany follows 36.000 Muslims which are members to Organizations that have unconstitutional ideologies.
- 30.000 of them are members of Milli Görüs, a Turkish Organization, related to the Saadet Party in Turkey. It is a diaspora Organization of a political party, which itself is not anymore under Constitutional screening in Turkey as of lately. The agenda of the 30.000 Milli Görüs members is mostly related to Turkey.
- Rest, 6.000 people are members to Arab-origin Organizations, for example: Hizbullah in Germany, 900 people.

There are 4.3 Million Muslims in Germany.

We have as many good and bad muslims as every other country. The difference is our government is not supposed to establish any one religion or prohibit the free excercise of religion.

To close a mosque or to deny a mosque being built gets murky into the first ammendment freedoms of religion.

Most Muslims in Germany are managed through Diyanet mosques. That counts for Albanian, Bosnian and Turkish communities in Germany. The vast majority of Muslims in Germany.

Diyanet is the State Preseidency for Religious Affairs of Turkey.
Germany so far does not educate its own Imams. But German Universities will now establish Islam faculties to home-grow own Imams. It's in the planing.
The imams of the Diyanet mosques in Germany are so far educated in Turkish Universities and payed by Turkish State for their work in Germany.

It's a service by Turkish State for diaspora Turks to receive proper mosque services. But other nationalities in Germany also attend these mosques.
Diyanet in Germany manges 880 religious communities, most of them with their own mosque. It operates as unincorporated association and does not receive German State funds.

You can also subscribe to a family insurance. It costs about 40 € a year.
You get an ID-card with a phone-number.
If someone within your family dies, you call the number and Diyanet comes and takes the dead body. It flies the body to Turkey to a cemetary of your choosing.
Then you can hire a Imam for burial ceremony, or Diyanet manages also that for you.

My unle who lived in Germany, was buried this way. My aunt had not to care for anything, but could solely mourn the loss of her husband.

1. But all mosques are for meeting places for planning ways to take over the area the mosque abides in.
2. Unless its an muslim hellhole country, which the location is all muslim already.

Just curious as to where your tolerance ends just because someone calls their beliefs a religion. Would you be ok with someone building a Church of Satan or a Wiccan facility in your neighborhood? How about one of the Voodoo churches? If they call it a religion should everyone have to tolerate it no matter what? Not trying to be confrontational. I'd just like to know your opinion.

many on the left had no problem condeming the catholic church, when it has been estimated that between .5 and 2% of its priests were molestors.

Yeah, saw that, looking from the direction of that mosque going up, it would seem Germany, at least, has the good sense to honor our 9/11 where we our own memories fail us.
