If Hitler would have done these few steps it is scary, but he would have won the war.
(1) Instead of Invading Russia, he should have concentrated on the Middle East. True he thought the Slavs were subhuman, true he though Russia would be conquered easily and true he desired fertile land for Aryan expansion, however, one of the main reasons he invaded the USSR was for oil. If he concentrated on the Middle East he would have gotten all the oil he wanted at a much easier cost.
(2) Used the Middle East oil to keep Japan from attacking Pearl Harbor/US. The isolation stance in the US was strong enough to keep the US out of the war. Pearl Harbor was the tipping point. If Germany provided Japan with oil, Japan wouldn't have needed the Philippines in the short-term and Germany could have prevented them from attacking the US.
(3) Cozy up with the US. There were Neville Chamberlains in US also. If Hitler would have provided some lip-service propaganda to the US, then the sheeple would have prevented the military built up and Hitler wouldn't have had to worry about the US.
(4) Kept the alliance with the USSR in the short-term. Convince Russia to help the invasion of the UK, for allowing USSR to take Sweden and Finland. Stalin didn't want to take on Germany and would have jumped at it. A Russian and German invasion of the UK wouldn't have been a cake walk, but would have be knocked the UK out of the war.
(5) Develop the Bomb and the Jet. The Manhattan Project wouldn't have commenced with the US not in the war and even with the Manhattan project, the Germans were working hard to develop it. With no Eastern Front, UK out of the picture and the US not in the war, then more German resources could have gone to producing the bomb and the jet airplane. Once Germany had the bomb, they would have been the sole nuclear power. They could have bombed Moscow, Stalingrad, New York and LA simultaneously. If that happened, the USSR and the US would have surrendered before the invasion began. They would have commanded the skies with their superior jet planes.

The Nazi would have dominated Europe, the Middle East and North America. It is doubtful that the sole nuclear power and the will to use them would have stopped there. Japan would probably be bombed next. The final solution would be expanded to included Africans, Hispanics, Slavs, Asian Indians and probably Asians in general. As the sole nuclear and military power, could the NAZIs have accomplished it? I am glad we will never know.

I've never understood why the Nazis hated the Slavs so much, seeing as they had no problem with Italians and Spaniards who, for the most part, have a lot in common with Slavs, ethnically speaking.

I know you disagree, but that would be the same with the Jews. That vast majority of German Jews with patriotic Germans that cared by well being of Germany, so his hatred of them made no sense.

A wet dream of yours?

German troops might have been the best trained in the world at the time and Germany developed a jet powered plane late in the war and a sputtering missile that could travel a couple of hundred miles but the German navy was a joke and there just wasn't enough German troops to conquer France much less than the entire world. When Allied air power penetrated the German air space and knocked out the German industrial centers the war was won. If Hitler suddenly became rational he would have realized that the 3rd Reich was doomed and would have sued for peace.

A wet dream of yours?

Most of my family was wiped out in the Holocaust, so know it's not a wet dream of mine!

Perhaps - however - the Soviet Army ripped the heart out of the Nazi's on the Eastern front, and in two world wars, the United States never lost a battle to the German forces despite the fact they bloodied us up pretty good in North Africa at Kasserine Pass; Sicily; Anzio; Normandy; The Battle of the Bulge; and the fight up the Italian peninsula's northern mountains to Monte Cassino.

The Nazi Aryan philosophy ingrained into the Germans by Hitler was the cause for the hatred of the Slav's of Poland and the USSR, and the Balkan States. Anti-semitism was rampant in Europe from the late 1400's, when Spain's King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella (yea - the ones who paid the bill for Columbus' voyages), expelled almost 300,000 Jews from Spain for refusing to convert to Christianity. Add those into the hundred's of thousand's of Jews who, expelled in ancient times from Palestine by the Romans (about 70 A.D.), settled in the Baltic countries of Europe, in Jewish ghettos, maintaining their own culture, and not always adhering to the political will of their host countries, and they were a suspect race. HItler would use that in his rise to power, and his attempted destruction of the Jews and the Slavic races in the holocaust.

As for the German General Staff, and Hitler, an uneasy truce existed. The General Staff watched and waited as Hitler overturned the Versailles Treaty requirement, without bloodshed, but they knew, that at some point, the French and the British, would, in fact, march against Germany. That the two Western democracies decided to go to war over Poland in 1939 (a nation with as much anti-semitism as Nazi Germany), odd. The French could have launched a million man army and sent it crashing, without aid from the British, into the non-existent, Western border and marched straight to Berlin, without opposition. However, of all his enemies, Hitler understood the French best, knew their military thinking was defensive, and chanced they wouldn't move - and didn't - when he launched against Poland. The German move thrrough the Adrennes with their "blitzkrig" armor, and infantry support Stuka fighter's, cut France and the British forces off and conquered Europe in six weeks.

At the time Hitler attacked the USSR in 1941, Germany was in a strong position, with no enemies left to fight, and like the French under Napoleon, controlled the continent of Europe, and North Africa, with an ally in Italy and Spain, only the USSR, England and America scattered on her wings. Hitler was an army corporal, understood infantry, artillery, but he wasn't a navy man. Had he concentrated on Donitz and the navy U-Boat campaign against England, eventually, it would have brought them to the negotiation table. The air attack on the British Isles wasn't going to succeed. Saving his Eastern front army for a push into the Middle East, the only place the British had troops left, and taking the oil, sharing it with Japan, and allowing the ever suspicious Stalin to take Norway (the Nazi's beat England in that invasion by a few weeks), and Sweden, would have placated the Soviets.

His failure to treat the loyal Jewish population of Germany as citizen's cost him the atomic bomb development, and he went off the beam in the Holocaust, although it is something he actually believed in, the Aryan race, and wrote about in his book. If he listened to Speer early in the war, the German air force would have hundred's of jet aircraft to counter the British-American bombing raids over their territory. Yes - Germany in 1941 could have concentrated and consolidated their territory, stayed with the Soviet alliance - Stalin was worried - but never accepted the warning that Hitler would break his promise and attack the USSR. Meanwhile, your point about giving the Japanese oil, to supply her armies and navy in SE Asia, might have kept them from attacking America.

Going to war before December 7, 1941 for America was impossible, we were neutral, and supported Britain, only because they spoke our language. Such stalwart American icons as Charles Lindberg advised Roosevelt that Germany was so powerful, and had such a tremendous air force, that they couldn't be conquered, and we should stay at peace with them. Of course, Lindberg had no idea of America's industrial capacity, Roosevelt did.

On December 8, 1941, it was inevitable, the Pearl Harbor attack galvanized American public opinion in such fury to punish Japan, that it was all General Marshal could do to get Roosevelt and our citizen's to concentrate on Germany first - Japan secondary. Hitler declaring war on America was as big a mistake as attacking the USSR.

Not only were the German's ahead in the U-Boat's, but the jet aircraft, the buzz bomb, and later the V-2, the forerunner of the nuclear ICBM, a rocket which left the atmosphere. Four years of concentrating German industry on the naval power against Britain, coupled with the jets and the rockets, and not expending about a million man army trying to conquer the world's largest country, the USSR, whose resolve and resources he underestimated, could have led to Germany winning World War II. As it was, it was a close call anyway. Also, America leaped to war after Pearl Harbor. It is highly questionable whether Roosevelt could have got American public opinion to go to war had the Japanese attacked the Philippines, Singapore and the Dutch possession in SE Asia, and left the American navy intact at Pearl Harbor. At the very least, no matter what Germany did, they could have left America alone to fight the Japanese alone, that would have been a better decision for Hitler, and questionable whether the U.S. Navy would have been sent steaming 12,000 miles across the Pacific to try to stop the Japanese Army and Navy attacks in the Jap backyard.

Japan didn't want the war with America, and HItler wasn't as smart to remember that America's entry into World War I turned the tide against Germany. But, Admiral Yammamoto, head of the Japanese Navy, decided that if war was to come for Japan - than the American and British naval strength's in the Pacific had to be destroyed at the start. We were fortunate the aircraft carriers were not in Peal Harbor on December 7, 1941, the British were not so lucky on December 8, 1941, when their two massive battleships, "Prince Of Wales" and "Repulse" were caught in the South China Sea without air cover and sunk. All that gave the Japanese army a head start in over running many of the American, British, French and particularly the Dutch, possessions in SE Asia, giving them oil, tin, rubber, all the things needed to fight a war. The American - Filipano hold out on Bataan for six months, and the Battle of Midway, which destroyed the four Japanese carriers and all her front line combat pilots which attacked Pearl Harbor, evened the odds, and every battleship except the Arizona, was salvaged and returned to fight in the Pacific War. Germany and Hitler could have held firm, and held Europe possibly for a decade or so - however, with an invincible army at the time, a cause "breathing space" in the east for Germany, he made the major mistake and went after the USSR, declared war on America, ignored his industrial specialist Speer, and sacrificed a million men in Russia, lost another army in North Africa, his industry to bombing raids, and France to the Anglo-American Normandy invasion. In hindsight, it is hard to see how somebody occupying the position and power of Hitler in 1941, could have done otherwise..............

Yes that is how the war went, but it's scary to think that it Hitler had a little more politician suaveness, then he could have won the war. Very scary!

I have been fascinated with WWII history, and studied it for decades. In that time frame of the war, there is no doubt that if Japan had not given Roosevelt an in to the war, and if Hitler would have done even close to the logical thing, all of Europe today would be praying to uncle Dolf before they went to bed at night.

While Western historians want to claim that the allies ran over Hitler and defeated him; the truth is......Hitler had more to do with defeating Germany than the allies did.

If Hitler would have done these few steps it is scary, but he would have won the war...
Great post!

But don't you think that all the "ifs" also leads to something completely different? Perhaps it was all there from the beginning, the insanity that made it possible was also the insanity that made it impossible?

This is not correct. The Me 262 was ready to go into series production in 1943 but there were concerns about the output of Bf (Me) 109 fighters that would shrink as a consequence of a large scale Me 262 production. Hitler stated that the war would be won also with conventional planes and the decision was made. When the Me 262 finally entered series production in 1944, it was not a very large scale production (compared with WWII dimensions, 1433 were built) and Hitler sabotaged the plane once again when he ordered to rebuild it to make it a "Blitzbomber" what resulted in a smaller fuel tank and in the destruction of half the planes on the ground by Allies´ air forces. Hitler even prohibited to talk of the Me 262 as a fighter.
The huge damage the Allies´ bombers did to the industry could not prevent the Germans from making more and more weapons. In 1944, Germany produced more arms than in all previous war years together and the production ran at peak for most kinds of weapons like tanks and planes in mostly subterranean facilities until the end of the war.

Very true and I am glad he wasn't more cunning in his approach. I am glad he had such an ego that he though he could take on the UK, USSR and the USA at once!

With over 400 submarines at the same time, the navy was also not a joke, irosie. Germany had also anti ship missiles that are controlled with a monitor and a joystick.

You need not INFORM me of those realities, captain blei----and you need
not inform of the fact that every Baathist pig in the world was cheering and praying for the victory----as well as so many of your other heros----like the Iranian Nazi pigs. I am also well aware of the spiritual lift you and yours obtain by pondering on the glory of a FUTURE victory of your filth. The very first Shiite Nazi pig I knew----about 47 years ago--- virtually licked his lips when he told me----SOMEDAY WE'LL DRINK THEIR BLOOD . I was too young to take that fantasy as a serious issue ---or even a fantasy----more like weird childish comment that was supposed
to impress me despite the fact that the man was a surgeon. Sometime words spoken long ago take on meaning

I am not sure what a "char" is-----is it a person who does washing and cleaning? -----I know the word "charwoman" The Nuremburg laws came out the same system from which
the laws of DHIMMIA were derived. ---the origin goes way back under the general category "how to control te conquered" -----but were put together most expertly by the emperor of the first Reich---Constantine. In the dhimmia system-----which would actually come into law in the Baathist system more or less-------neither a Christian nor a jew would be allowed to hire a muslim to wash clothes

what does all this have to do with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle?
