1. My brotherinlaw is German, still does business there and tells me that the Germany is very European Socialist with 6 or 8 week paid vacation annually. Nice deal if you can get it. The people are decent and honorable and if push came to shove I'd like to have them at our side rather than fighting against us.

2. The only German that comes to me is the lady who sang 99 Luft Balloons, this is not a good question for me.

3. American schools are terrible at teaching history including our own, the American Left controls the education establishment and all you learn about Germany is Kaiser Wilhelm and Hitler. But don't feel bad because I think that fully 90% of American high-school student would fail if they were asked to identify 3 of Americas Founding Fathers and that's with spotting them George Washington.

4. Octoberfest, way cool!!

5. November 9th 1989 -- The Day Reagan's call to "Tear Down This Wall" came to fruition. Do you study Ronald Reagan? The American Left teaches that he was only an actor who had no effect on the world around him. Hopefully, you're not that ignorant

6. January 30th 1933 -- Probably something to do with Hitler, who was a Leftist

7. Angela Merkel is the German Chancellor (no Googling!!)

8. I know very little.

4. Sauerkraut on hot dogs and German chocolate cake.
5. The Berlin Wall came down ending many years of stupidity.

1. What do you think about Germany and the people there in general? Its long past time to shed any lingering guilt over the 1930's-1940's.

2. Do you know any German celebrities? I don't even know any celebrities from here.

3. Do you learn something about German History at School or when you go to College? Only superficially.

4. Are there German traditions in America? Do the yule log and Christmas tree count?

5. Do you know what happened on November 9th 1989? Freedom for the East Berliners as gates were opened and the wall became irrelevant.

6. What happened on January 30th 1933? National Socialists take over. A mistake on a nationwide level which the world will never let you live down.

7. Who is Angela Merkel? Currently the leader of your government.

8. What do you really know about my country? Your ancestors gave the Romans fits, stopping them at the Rhine, destroying them at the Teutoburg Forest. You make some excellent automobiles and beer, and set the world standard for engineering excellence.

1. What do you think about Germany and the people there in general?
My brother spent a tour of duty in the Army stationed in Bamberg, Germany. While there the first words in German he learned to say were, "ein Bier, bitte." He loved Germany. When he got out of the Army he said that if they'd have promised him he could go back to Germany, he'd have reenlisted in the Army.

2. Do you know any German celebrities?
No.

3. Do you learn something about German History at School or when you go to College?
Unfortunately, only about wars.

4. Are there German traditions in America?
Many, and my ancestry is more German than any other, as I'm a Heinz 57 European with a dash of American Indian.

5. Do you know what happened on November 9th 1989?
East Germans were allowed to visit West Germans.

6. What happened on January 30th 1933?
Don't know.

7. Who is Angela Merkel?
Current Chancellor of Germany

8. What do you really know about my country?
Not enough, and I plan on visiting someday. If my brother liked it as much as he did, I'll like it too.

Fuck you, n00b

Now go fetch me some pastrami and a pint of Kölsch

1. What do you think about Germany and the people there in general?
I've liked all the Germans I've known personally. I've never been to your country, but I get the impression that there's a lingering sense of uneasiness about fascism and similar ideologies, which would explain the limits placed on "hate speech" there. The only thing I hold against modern Germany, besides the speech restrictions, is the recent murder of Marwa Sherbini.

2. Do you know any German celebrities?
None that are currently living. But I know Nietzsche, Marx, Engels, Kant, Weber...

3. Do you learn something about German History at School or when you go to College?
The school curriculum in my state covers general world history and American history; German history alone isn't really discussed in depth. However, students can take elective courses that deal with more specific areas of history, including European History, which discusses German history more extensively. Most universities here seem to offer region-specific or country-specific history courses, so yes.

4. Are there German traditions in America?
Yes, many. Beer, Christmas trees, strudel, beer, pretzels, sauerkraut, beer, and wurst. Oh, and beer. Some isolated communities here like the Amish and the Mennonites still speak German dialects, though I think they came from Switzerland...

Some 15-20% of Americans are of German descent if I recall correctly.

5. Do you know what happened on November 9th 1989?
The Berlin wall was opened.

6. What happened on January 30th 1933?
Hitler became chancellor.

7. Who is Angela Merkel?
She's been your chancellor for a few years now.

8. What do you really know about my country?
Not nearly enough.

I'm only familiar with your philosophers, some of your history, and some basic information about your politics.

1. Efficient and generally humorless people.
2. Claudia Schiffer. A bunch of footballers. Scorpians.
3. Not outside of general European history.
4. Oktoberfest.
5. Berlin Wall came down.
6. Something to do with the Nazis. Hitlers election? Reichstag being set on fire? Something like that.
7. President of Germany.
8. Never had much interest in Germany, though I have traveled extensively in Europe and I have some German in my bloodlines. Maybe I'll go there one day. One highly placed European I know called Germany "a socialist state." I thought that was interesting. Your country has a demographics problem. You aren't having enough kids. That threatens your welfare state. The opening of Eastern Europe also threatens the welfare state as it will push down wages.

1. I like the people and your country very much. Used to get there 2-3 times a year for business, mostly to Dusseldorf, but other cities too. Schlosser Alt from Dusseldorf is my favorite German beer.
2. Not really.
3. Not much at all. Mostly WW II stuff. Our educational system is fairly trashed these days though. For example, not may American students could even point Germany out on a map if the country names were excluded. But don't take it personal. They couldn't do the same for many of our states either.
4. As others have noted, Oktoberfest is probably the most well known. Hey, why not? You make great beer!
5. Yep, the wall.
6. Not sure but assume it has to do with Hitler's rise.
7. Know she's your head of state but not sure of the title.
8. You make great cars. With but two exceptions all I've ever owned are German cars...VW, Audi and Mercedes. I've always found the people to be very friendly and enjoy your countryside, architecture, and customs very much. As for prejudices, I don't often hear much negative towards your country/people. Probably the most from Jewish people because of the Holocoust, but with WW II now 60+ years ago I seldom hear anyone mention Germany in a negative manner. Perhaps there's more among families who lost or had loved ones seriously injured in the war, but our family didn't nor did families of close friends of mine.

Good luck with your paper. You chose an interesting way to do some research. Good for you!

And your English is very good too.
