Good news. Unemployment is considerable in this area, why add to the problem? The locals are pretty fed up already and some have even taken to setting fire to immigrant buildings, so there is also a safety issue.

Public protest forces German city to remove refugees and backtrack on migrant centre
A WAVE of anti-refugee protests has forced authorities in a German city to cancel plans to build a refugee centre – with authorities instead deciding to move nearly all refugees out of the city.

Officials in the city of Rostock said "the safety of the refugees" and "security concerns" was behind the unexpected U-turn.

The decision against a refugee centre comes amid growing tension between local Germans and the growing migrant population following a series of terror attacks in Europe in recent weeks.

In Rostock, a series of protests and attacks against refugees in the city have prompted a drastic change of mind.

Security concerns halt Rostock refugee shelter plans
The city, located in the north east of the country, had planned to establish a refugee housing centre in the local district of Gross Klein to accommodate the increase in the arrival of migrants to Germany.

But, according to the police, a group of German youths had tried to storm the building recently, fuelling fears the new arrivals would be at risk.

Rostock's Social Affairs Minister Steffen Bockhahn said it "hurt" to make the decision but the growing anger towards refugees meant the situation was too dangerous.

On top of this, a nearby home for unaccompanied underage refugees had to be partially evacuated a week earlier amid safety concerns. ....

Our friend's father was born in Rostock.

Their football team is called "Hansa Rostock."

I'm guessing there won't be many immigrants in the terraces supporting them.

Poll: Majority of Americans Oppose Taking Syrian Refugees Into the U.S.
August 16, 2016 – A Chicago Council on Global Affairs poll released Monday found that just 36 percent of Americans overall said they were in favor of “accepting Syrian refugees into the United States.”
The responses reflect a partisan split, with 56 percent of Democrats and 18 percent of Republicans in favor of accepting Syrian refugees. Support for accepting Syrian refugees has fallen overall from 42 percent in the 2014 poll. Democrat support has risen slightly from 55 to 56 percent since 2014 while Republican support has fallen from 27 to 18 percent. The 2016 poll also asked Americans about U.S. military actions in Syria.

Overall those surveyed favored a limited amount of action. Seventy-two percent overall were in favor of conducting airstrikes against violent Islamic extremist groups and 57 percent favored sending Special Operations Forces into Syria to fight Islamic State terrorists. Just 42 percent overall supported sending combat troops into Syria.

The 2016 Chicago Council Survey based its poll results on a national sample of 2,061 adults, 18 years of age or older, living in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia. The poll was conducted June 10-27. The margin of error ranges from plus or minus 2.2-3.5 percentage points, depending on the specific question.

Europe migrant crisis: Germany expects 'up to 300,000' this year
Sun, 28 Aug 2016 - Germany expects up to 300,000 migrants to arrive in the country, according to the head of Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
Frank-Juergen Weise told the Bild am Sonntag paper (in German) his office would struggle if more people came. But he said he was confident the number of new arrivals would remain within the estimate. More than one million migrants from the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa arrived in Germany last year. The German interior ministry says more than 390,000 people applied for asylum in the first six months of this year. It is not clear how many of these may have arrived in the country in 2015.

Hundreds of migrants and refugees wait for Berlin's State Office of Health and Welfare, the cities central registration point for asylum seekers in Berlin, Germany.

Mr Weise said Germany would try to get as many of them on the job market as possible. But he said the migrants' integration in German society "would take a long time and cost a lot". A poll this month showed just over half of Germans thought Chancellor Angela Merkel's migrant policy was bad. Support for anti-immigrant groups has risen. On Saturday, members of a far-right movement scaled Berlin's Brandenburg Gate and unfurled a banner to protest against what they called the "Islamisation" of Germany.

A note on terminology: The BBC uses the term migrant to refer to all people on the move who have yet to complete the legal process of claiming asylum. This group includes people fleeing war-torn countries such as Syria, who are likely to be granted refugee status, as well as people who are seeking jobs and better lives, who governments are likely to rule are economic migrants.

No way would I accept any of these people into my home. And if I wouldn't take them into my home then I wouldn't expect anyone else in the country to deal with them either
