Georgia's president grudgingly signed a truce with Russia Friday, even as he denounced the Russians as invading barbarians and accused the West of all but encouraging them to overrun his country.

A stone-faced Condoleezza Rice, standing alongside, said Russian troops must withdraw immediately from their smaller neighbor

I still agree with the conservatives here, who said we should go to war with russia over this.

I think a very small fact is missing here. Right or wrong ... Georgia did start this uproar and it was Russia that was waiting for them to make one tiny screw up like they did .... and Russia will finish it. :(

.... you must be crazy

I was totally kidding about going to war. Why the fuck would the United States go to war in Georgia? I was mocking the conservatives here who were drooling for war.

They may have signed a treaty but from the news articles I've been reading Russia is going to achive their objective before they pull back from Georgia.

Yup, I am sure Britain and France thought the same about Alsac Lorraine and the Sudaten land as well. Remind us where that got them?

When exactly was it that you conservatives lost your minds, and became obsessed with sending other people's kids to fight wars you want?

When did you turn your backs on the legacy of Ronald Reagan? At least Reagan had a few brain cells - he didn't declare war on the soviet union for occupying afghanistan, he was smart enough to know there are other ways to punish the russians for aggression, without getting thousands of americans killed.

I doubt there would be a war if we stood up to Russia. And in fact we HAVE sent troops to Georgia, in case you missed it.

When did it become acceptable to write off allies because honoring our commitments might be tough? Ohh wait, I remember in 1975.

Moron. Is all I can say. Get out a map. The conflict is INSIDE the INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED boundaries of Georgia. This is no different than if the United Stated invade and took over a few counties in Manitoba or Chiuahua because some Americans were being "mistreated" by Canadians or Mexicans.

Let's see how long this "Peace" lasts. I wouldnt be surprised if the Russians are breaking it as we speak.
