While George Will is being just a tad bit real, he too falls into the 'judge em by some irrelevant criterion' groupthink. He chides Gingrich for his off the wall nonsense, but then brings up Woodrow Wilson, a favorite target of the right for his educational experience. You'd think he'd realize Gingrich is in that same category. When you are making oddball comparisons thought would help. That may be asking too much of the republicans and conservatives today.

The GOP seems to have a spectrum ranging from right wing to overt FASCIST with the fascist philoshophy gaining momentum.

So whether or not they're weird really depends on how weird you think fascism (or corporatism if you find the word fascism offensive) really is.

FWIW, The D party leadership appears to me to ALSO be most fascist (corporatist), too except the D party still has some liberalist leanings and a small cadre of left leaning libertarians who nobody in power in the DNC pay any attention to,
