George Washington's Rules of Civility

Imagine if only this were followed. old facts of debate
Speculation without evidence is not proof.
( but will stand as fact unless disproved)
Speculation with Counterevidence is disproof.
Silence is the weakness of the nondebateable lie.

It was a major thing with young george, who was considered a country bumpkin in his youth.

Of coure, Georgie was known to be somewhat less civil if the situation called for it, such as cursing a blue streak at Charles Lee for disobeying orders and retreating at Monmouth.

All of that can be summed up in one sentence:

"Think wisely, and then act wisely."

Most of those things would not occur if one gave it a first thought, never mind a second.
