To know how our Founders felt about guns, one need look no further than the Second Militia Act of 1792.

.

Washington was absolutely correct in the statement and I agree whole heartedly with it. It is too bad that advice is not heeded by either side in today's furor over 'guns'.

Look closely at the words. Especially the word 'disciplined'.

Perhaps the requirement for having firearms is that one be in a militia.

There are estimates of 80 million legal gun owners in the US. The government is not prepared to put 80 million people behind bars, nor would the nation be able to tolerate it if it happened.

The last assault weapons ban had no affect on anything. It certainly didn't stop Kleibold and Harris from getting theirs. What would really happen with any kind of gun ban is that it would be ignored like many of our more nonsense laws are ignored. The government will have no more luck banning guns as it has in banning drugs. The only difference is, when a citizen protects themselves, instead of calling the police and reporting it, there will be some anonymous graves or washing up on the beach.
