Happy Birthday to one of the greatest singers ever. With his history of alcohol abuse, it's a wonder he's still here, but I'm sure glad he is.

Check out Roy Orbison doing the 'ooohs' in the background, during the breakdown where George talks. 2:15 mark.

There ain't much left of country music, and George sang the epitaph.

he stopped loving her today.....is one of the most moving songs.....
It has also been voted "Best All-Time Country Song" numerous times in numerous polls. Always near the top are "Your Cheating Heart" by Hank Williams, "Crazy", by Patsy Cline (written by Willie Nelson), and "Stand By Your Man", by Tammy Wynette.

I'll go with George.

When you listen to this song closely, it reveals a unique-to-George Jones style of extremely low, almost guttural, octave-jumping that nobody else does, or is even able to copy. It's quite amazing and extremely subtle.

You can hear it as early as the 0:15 second mark, on the word "that".
