George Bush - the most popular president in US history

I think it's funny that some of the retards on the right think that Obama should be treated like Bush for no reason other than "well the libs did it too." It's such a playground mentality.

I think that it's funny that some of the retards on the left think that Bush should be treated like Clinton for no reason other than "well the Republicans did it too." It's such a playground mentality.

How's that Bush impeachment thing working out for you? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Clinton
was involved in a failed real estate deal
received a blow job from an intern

Bush
Lied to start an unnecessary war
Openly advocated torture of prisoners

For this, Clinton was investigated by a special prosecutor for seven years and went through impeachment proceedings. Bush blocked investigations while he was president and claimed immunity

Well, no. No one stopped the recount. Not the first one, not the second one, not even the third one. No recount showed Gore winning. That didn't stop the Gore activists from trying to disenfranchise Bush voters.
There was a change after 9/11 because Bush showed something that is unthinkable in Obama: leadership. He could have pulled a Clinton and sombered on about bringing the criminals to justice. And then done nothing. In fact he acted. And Congress voted overwhelmingly to go along.
But when the operations lasted longer than the next commercial break the Dems realized they could exploit the war to unseat him and retake the Congress. This they did.
Bush pledged to keep this country safe. He did so. The only betrayal is from the Left which voted for him before they voted against him.

I didn't say Gore should have won. I didn't say any of the recounts showed Gore winning.

What I did say was that Republicans stopped the recount, which they did, by inciting mobs to crowd the recount offices in Florida and stop them from doing their job, and then got the Supreme Court involved...

Which created a feeling that they had been "ripped-off" as voters.

Which, again, dissappeared after 9/11.

At least until Bush betrayed us all by manufactuing a rationale for us to take our troops out of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and then to invade a country that HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11.

You fucking jackasses really think that the entire anti-war movement was some kind of political GAME?

That is very telling as to how your thinking process works.

Only a sick, twisted individual would think that the only reason people didn't want to go to war, with a country that didn't attack them, is for political gain.

Only a right-wing nutjob would think that. Thanks for showing us your colors.

Troops in Pakistan????

You obviously have a reading deficiency.
But we knew this from way back.
His approval rating prior to 9/11 was 56%. After 9/11 it went to 90%, but that was only war enthusiasm or whatever followed the attacks.
So he wasn't exactly Mister Popular in his first months in office.

Wrong answer.

Clinton committed perjury...A FELONY....plead guilty to a lesser charge and was disbarred.

The Democrats passed the laws that gave Bush ALL OF THE POWER HE NEEDED to start the Iraq War.

Try rewriting history to your Romper Room buddies...in the words of your hero Slick Willy...."That dawg don't hunt."

Hey dumbshit. How about:
Clinton lied about real estate deal, committed perjury, had sex with a subordinate, took campaign funds from Red Chinese, suborned witnesses, and was impeached and nearly convicted, the only president in the 20th century to do so.
Bush took courageous action against a rogue regime that was defying UN sanctions, took apart a terrorist organization that had festered for years under Clinton, gave us 7 years of expanding GDP, and finally went against the advice of those who counseled the war was lost and launched a strategy that won it.
Clinton: 0
Bush: 1

If you want to run a comparison of the Right's treatment of Clinton and the Left's treatment of Bush...I don't think you want to bring up the LACK of Bush's impeachment as some kind of equal treatment thing. :eusa_whistle:

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Clinton actually committed a crime, a felony, whereas Bush didn't break ONE SINGLE LAW during his entire 8 years as President of the United States.

How about

Clinton lead the country to prosperity unparalleled in 40 years and left office with a balanced budget and firm foreign policy.

Bush doubled the national debt, initiated the worst recession in 70 years, started two wars, botched two wars, ignored suffering Americans during Katrina, engaged in TORTURE and destroyed the country

Clinton 1
Bush -10

Yes, there have been special forces "advisors" in Pakistan working with the Pakistani government for quite some time.

What the heck happened in here

Politics as usual.

Republicans defending Bush are like Democrats defending Carter. They just can't let it go and admit they had a fuckup of a President. Though least Carter had the brains to not fuck up so badly as Bush did. :eusa_eh:

Carter was a fuckup

But at least he ressurected his legacy after he left office...much like Nixon

I'm afraid Bush's legacy will be as worst president in history

depends on what aspects of the presidency you are looking at ;)

What i've learned from this thread is that some people would probably blindly keep supporting or hating obama NO MATTER WHAT happens.

56% is pretty popular actually. Better than Reagan for September of his first term in fact.

If Obama invaded a foreign country without provocation, I would no longer support him.

Oh, and Pilgrim, I asked about Iran and 9/11 links because it seemed from your post as if you were indicating that you thought eventually invading Iran was a proper response to 9/11.

Other things that would stop me from supporting Obama:

Continuation of "warrantless wiretapping".

Actual government takeover of the means of production in America (real Socialism), as opposed to helping out a company here and there when the failure of said company could spell disaster for the public.

There are lots more.

Was that before or after Clinton committed the felony?

and Clinton left the country reeling from the dot com bubble bursting, plunging employment numbers, the Enron debacle, 20 terrorists in 4 Al Qaeda terror cells training for the 9/11 attacks and a foreign policy that had American civilians and soldiers being shot at or killed daily.

Oh no thats not what i was getting at.

I thought that it was the Administrations plan to go after the "axis of evil" which included Iran. From a purely strategic position it seemed like our government was taking over 2 weaker countries surrounding them in order to launch an assult on that member of the "axis".

The proper overseas response to 9/11, in my opinion, would have been to send several hundred thousand troops to afghanistan and take out all the al-quaeda and taliban we could find. Making sure that if we had surrounded Bin Laden in Tora Bora we would have enough troops to ensure he couldnt escape.

A proper respons at home would have been to station more troops on the northern and southern borders with orders to warn twice then shoot anyone trying to cross illegally. And a much more stepped up screening at our seaports and airports.

Instead we got the patriot act and Iraq.
