Generals: Troops need to stay in Iraq

You don't appear to understand how the chain of command works. Our military is under the control of elected civilian leaders.

The president (Bush) appoints generals that broadly support implementing his policies, and fires or dismisses those who either don't support him, or who fail at implementing his policies:

Your the one that does not understand. Generals are promoted not by the President at all. And he has little to do with Commanders except through the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Military choses who runs what division , though the President usually has a voice in higher commands he doesn't usually pick who will command the regions either. Now he can ,and previous Presidents have, Fire Generals from specific high level commands. I do not think a President has ever fired or had anything to do with Division or Corps Commanders though.

For your theory to work he would have had to been able to pick the 2nd Lts 20 to 25 to 30 years ago to get the Generals he wants now. Now the Different Service Chiefs have a lot of say but Generally they leave it up to the military itself to pick and chose who gets promoted. There are few and they are far between, Generals ever promoted because of a President and Bush hasn't promoted any.

He has the choice on head of JCS and a say in the rest of that group.

Your total lack of understanding is appalling but is indicative of just about everyone on the left.

And now explain how he hand picked career diplomats to be where he need them to lie for him. He picks the Ambassador but the diplomats are almost totally career people.

Your knowledge is appalling. You lack complete understanding of the military chain of command, and the nations political appointments.

The president nominates and the senate confirms generals at or above a three star rank. Bush is ultimately responsible for picking the flag officers and commanders for theater military combat operations and wars. The president always picks his commaders for theater operations in any war. Bush got rid of generals who questioned his policies (e.g., Shinseki is one example) and installed those who agreed to play along with his politicies (Patreus)

Bush is responsible for appointing every single Assistant, and Associate Secretaries of State, assisstant SecDefs, Amabassadors, and special foreign envoys. Who do you think picked Paul Bremer, and Kalizahy for head of the CPA and US Embassy in Baghdad? BUSH.

I understand you want bush to be blameless. That He's just some stooge in the white house, while the "bureacrats" around him fuck up. But, the buck stops with bush

Yup, the President just wakes up one morning and randomly picks 2 star Generals for promotion, you believe this and call my knowledge appalling. As to diplomats, I do not see any of your list as the ones calling for us to remain in Iraq. But do keep telling us how the President promotes generals.

For your information The Military Branch submits the names to the Sec of that branch who then submits them to either Sec def or straight to the President. Once again JUST for you, in order for Bush to have gotten the generals he wants he would have had to have picked the crop of 2nd Lts that were in the years these generals come from.

But do tighten that tin foil hat, you never know when Cheney will locate you with his mind control ray.
