Constructing a civilian port for civilian travel. Maybe they can promote tourism.

"We are taking the necessary measures to allow maritime transport and to prepare for the construction of a port which will link Gaza with the outside world," Batta said.

There was no immediate reaction from Israel to the Gaza port plan.

Yeah, and I'm positive they won't smuggle anything "fishy" (no pun intended) there.

12 miles out from where?

The tidal datum line of course, and in line with the land borders.

Are they indeed, or are they inside the Mandate for Palestine that was designated by the LoN as the RESURECTED NATIONAL HOME OF THE JEWS that was taken from them by the arab muslims ? Much like Jerusalem was.

Cruising into conflict zones Thomson includes once-troubled destinations in cruise itineraries Daily Mail Online
The traditional Mediterranean cruise is to be overhauled with a new set of destinations which have dominated headlines in recent years for all the wrong reasons.

Forget sunny Barcelona and the Amalfi coast, the biggest travel company in Europe is shaking up its cruise itineraries with ports of call including Algiers, in Algeria, and Beirut, in Lebanon, making the niche destinations available to the everyday traveller.

Thomson Cruises - part of TUI Travel - is including the once-troubled spots on its new 2013 voyages, which will also add new stops in Belfast, in Northern Ireland and even the Ukraine - two destinations which have seen their fair share of strife.

Road to recovery: Algeria has seen 10 years of bitter civil war

The new city stops, which have all been no-go areas over recent decades, will be included alongside more traditional ports of call.

Despite a warning from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of a 'high threat from terrorism in Algeria' and advice for Britons to 'exercise caution at all times' in the capital, Algiers will form part of Thomson's Mediterranean Odyssey voyage.

After the brutal War of Independence which raged in Algeria between 1954 and 1962, the country has experienced several political clashes and coups, as well as a bitter civil war which lasted from 1992 to 2002.

More recently, the rise of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, has caused international concern with its aim to overthrow the Algerian government and institute an Islamic state using an insurgent campaign.

The FCO reassures that in Algiers itself 'it is generally safe to move around the centre of the city during the day', but suggests it is 'best if accompanied by someone who knows the city well.'

It advises: 'You should arrange, if possible, to be met on arrival in Algiers'.

Historic masterpiece: The spectacular Baalbek Roman ruins are just 30 miles northeast of Beirut

Lebanon has also seen upheaval and wars in its recent history, making it a no-go zone for tourists for many years. After a 15-year civil war which ended in 1990, Beirut - known as the Paris of the Middle East - became a popular destination for foreign visitors.

But the month-long war with Israel in 2006, caused many civilian deaths and damaged infrastructure, seriously affecting tourism for the following years.

The FCO warns that there is still a 'general threat from terrorism' in Lebanon, informing tourists that 'attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as hotels and restaurants'.

However, Beirut, which is once again seeing a rise in tourism despite ongoing problems in the rest of the region, has been included in Thomson's Portraits of the Past cruise for its spectacular Roman ruins such as Baalbek.

Fraser Ellacott, managing director of Thomson Cruises, explained the new itinerary choices, saying the travel company was keen to offer new experiences to cruisers.

'At Thomson Cruises we have found our customers are always looking for new and exciting places to explore, so we always try to respond to this and introduce ports of call that are more unusual,' he told TravelMail.

'Algiers and Beirut are cities that are drenched in history and culture and offer a host of must-see experiences. Beirut in particular is a cosmopolitan city with luxury five star hotels, brilliant night life and architecture, which I know many of our customers, will be keen to visit. Many travel writers are also advising people to visit as soon as possible, before it gets too popular.

Mr Ellacot also reassured customers about the more risky des
tinations, saying: 'We work very closely with the Foreign Commonwealth Office and our agents on the ground as we do in every country we operate in to ensure our customers have a safe and enjoyable holiday.'

Battle sites: Many Britons visit the Ukraine to explore the 'Valley of Death' where the Charge of the Light Brigade took place during the Crimean War - as depicted in Franz Alekseyevich Roubaud's Siege of Sevastopol work, painted between 1854 and 1855

An updated Black Sea itinerary has also been designed for Britons who are keen to explore the history of the Crimean War.

Calling at Nessebar, in Bulgaria, Sevastopol, in the Ukraine, Constanta, in Romania and Istanbul and Cesme, in Turkey, the cruise will begin sailings from summer 2013.

The Sevastopol naval base is close to the 'Valley of Death', where the Charge of the Light Brigade took place in 1854, forever immortalised in Alfred Lord Tennyson's famous poem praising the soldiers' bravery.

While there is only a low threat of terrorism in the the Ukraine, the FCO warns that travellers should 'be alert to the possibility of street crime and petty theft and aware that foreigners may appear to be lucrative targets'.

As one of the host countries for this year's football European Cup, the Ukraine is seen as a destination that could be on the rise, perhaps explaining its inclusion in Thomson's cruise itinerary.

Branching out: Thomson will be calling at the unusual new destinations from 2013

Belfast has also undergone a revival in recent years since the Good Friday peace agreement was reached in 1998.

It completed its transformation with the opening of the £90 million Titanic Belfast exhibition, commemorating its part in the maritime disaster, last week and has been included in Thomson's British Isles itinerary.

Fraser Ellacott, managing director of Thomson Cruises said: 'Our Summer 2013 programme is our best yet with fantastic itineraries and ports of call such as Beirut, Algiers, Istanbul, Torquay and Belfast - there really is something for everyo

Yeah... I can just see it now... Royal Caribbean and Norwegian and Princess and Carnival and all those other cruise lines... ferrying hundreds of thousands of cruise-passengers for day-long shore excursions to Gaza, to play on the beaches, and to shop, and to do touristy-things... like Six Flags Gaza... Playa Hamas Beach Resort... Nakba Mall... all duty-free.

Yeah, yeah... that's the ticket.

Puh-leeeeze!

The Israelis will board and shoot up the first cruise ship that even ventures near Gaza territorial waters. LOL

Very pretty... before the dumbasses of Hamas provoked Israel into flattening Gaza City in the Summer of 2014.

My grandmother can put-together and serve-up an attractive tourist-luring video, Tinny.

But wishes aren't fishes, and nobody with an ounce of brains and the money to go someplace else, is going to even consider Gaza.

Not unless they consider vacationing in a savage militant Islamic pseudo-state to be a restful and relaxing and enjoyable state of affairs.

Hosted by idiots who insist on poking their far more powerful neighbors with a stick every so often, and getting death and destruction rained down upon their heads in retaliation.

Yeah... that's a vacation spot for most folks, alright.

And you know this how?

You come out with the stupidest things.

That's what they usually do to ships that venture near Gaza,.

The Swedes launch a probe?

Ooooooooohhh... I'll bet the Israelis are just a-shakin' in their booties over that one... golly-gosh gee-willickers.

Pariah states like Israel, usually do not care what the rest of the world thinks about them. But I wasn't making the point of the probe, just confirming what Israel does when ships venture near Gaza territorial waters.
