I think Silicon Valley has driver-less cars close to becoming commercially viable. They will be a game-changer in decreasing fossil fuel consumption. Huge reductions are possible with larger platoons drafting with tighter spacing between vehicles. Today's cars & trucks have self drive parking, auto steering, backup warning, collision avoidance, anti-skid braking & steering, Adaptive Cruise Control, lane-departure warning systems, real time positioning, tracking & communication etc. It's a short gap to download software converting them into self driving or driver-less vehicles that can more than double current MPG's.

We just need to increase the EPA mileage mandate standards to push this technology into the mainstream. Places like China have mileage standards that are 10 MPG higher than ours. This is why the USA can't export our gas guzzlers anywhere.
