Gates Tells Obama Can't Wait On Afghan Decision

Near decision...

President Barack Obama is nearing a decision to add tens of thousands more forces to Afghanistan, though likely not quite the 40,000 sought by his top general there, as Pentagon planners work to ready bases and provide equipment the troops would need in a country with scant resources.

The White House emphasized Monday that the president hasn't made a decision yet about troop levels or other aspects of the revised U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.

You guys are funny. Our guys are in fact dying over there, but where was the outrage for the prior 8 years?

Why didnt we just get this war over with 8 years ago? Oh yeah because we were fighting a war in Iraq because of WMD's......remember!

Stfu hypocrites.
That was then...this is now. Why can't you understand? Oh, wait...I forgot...you're a fuckin' idiot!

no attacks in 8 years. outrageous HEIL HITLER !!!!

What happened on 9/11? Heil Hitler indeed. Who was in charge during 9/11? Obama kept us safer his first year moreso than Bush. Am I right?
No, you're not right. You have no sense of logic regarding causality.

Obama needs to solve the present problem. What you numbnuts don't realize is that the UN is heavily involved in Afghanistan and there are many countries supporting the effort. This is not the little boy king's war.

He continues to shoot himself in the feet. His toes are gone already.

Here are a few pertinant facts - I apologize deeply if they do not mesh with all the spin and vilification attempts.

1) McChrystal's reccomendation that he submitted to Obama made it very clear throughout that what he is asking for - first and formost - is a re-evaluation of strategy and tactics in Afghanistan and he made it very clear that additional troops ARE NOT the crux of his reccomendation.

2) No one is dying in Afghanistan because requested re-inforcements are not arriving in time. To believe that one would have to believe that officers moved their men into positions that they could not defend without more troops. They had no idea whether or not these additional troops would be sent, so staking these folks lives on such an uncertainty would be fool-hearty and I give them a lot more credit than that.

3) No one elected Obama with the idea that he was going to be a rubber stamp for the military. He was elected by a majority of Americans in part because they knew he was going to be more prudent and thoughtful in committing our armed forces than the previous administration was.

4) But Gates is correct in stating that we cannot wait the year or more that it is going to take for local government to sort things out. McChrystal's reccommendation also made it clear this HIS definition of short-term needs covers a period of about 12 months. So IF Obama has not made a move by next July or so, THEN he will be "overdue."
