Garth Brooks Calls Off TV Appearances Due to Ferguson Violence

In light of the protests and violence occurring in Ferguson, Mo., Garth Brooks has cancelled his scheduled TV appearances to promote his new album, ‘Man Against Machine.’
On Monday night (Nov. 24), it was revealed that a grand jury had decided not to indict Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, in August. In the wake of the announcement, and despite calls for peaceful protests, violence erupted in the St. Louis suburb.
“We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong seemed distasteful to me,” Brooks says in a statement. “I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow.”
According to the Wrap, Brooks’ appearances on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ ‘Today’ and ‘Live! With Kelly and Michael,’ all set to tape and air this week, have all been called off. However, Brooks’ appearance on ‘Ellen,’ scheduled for this afternoon (Nov. 25), was pre-taped and is scheduled to be televised as planned.
Last week, Hunter Hayes cancelled a St. Louis-area concert due to the state of emergency declared by Missouri’s governor in advance of the verdict announcement.
After the grand jury’s decision was announced, other country stars took to social media to express their thoughts.
“Pray for forgiveness, pray for the community, pray for the families, pray for understanding and pray for love,” Reba McEntire wrote on Facebook. “I pray for all those things and for God to be with the town of Ferguson.”
Billy Ray Cyrus, Charlie Daniels and LeAnn Rimes echoed her sentiments.
