Returning to the good ole days.

We should supply all of them with guns as long as they only use them on each other and let them have at it.

Wannabees. There is no American Mafia any more, just a bunch of low end clowns using the name. Bonanno was right about that a long time ago.

Bonanno was a low end clown too -- no matter how much folks want to romanticize them

The Italian Mob is not nearly the organization it once was. They've been replaced by the Russian Mob, and others. Most of the kids of Italian mobsters didn't want that life, and chose to live non violent, legal and legitimate lives.

Mainly why it died out; only the low rent trash and psychos wanted their kids in it; the rest sent their kids to nice WASP schools and encouraged them to succeed in the straight world, so no real continuity and brains being fed back into the grinder to keep it going.

The guy who got whacked was actually one of the quieter ones, he wasn't flashy like Gotti.

Still, even if the organization is a shell, a boss getting clipped is going to lead to the remaining parts of the organization going to the mattresses.

True, but they have far too many sociopaths for any boss to survive for long, assuming they don't fall to the Feds. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be a 'boss' since 1980 or so in the first place. Talk about having a giant bullseye on your back, from both the Feds, IRS, and your own 'friends'.

Most of the Italian mobsters decided to cut deals with the Feds long ago, and spilled their guts to save their skins and avoid jail time or extended jail time. That is when the entire system broke down. The Russians and others that replaced them never had a sense of honor within the organization, so don't care about anything but money, power, and removing their enemies. They will also scam, you, a civilian, for anything they can get unlike the Mafia who largely knew to keep it internal and just sell drugs, gambling, women, and steal from trucking companies etc

They have had to get more cutthroat to compete with the Russians, the Chinese, and the Albanians. The big problem I see coming is when the newer groups spread out past their own ethnic enclaves. The new guys are far more brutal, and ironically far more quiet about it.

In old days if the Italians needed mad dog killers they contracted it out to the Irish or the Poles.
