The Former USA
Last week, the House passed the then-$819 billion stimulus bill — without a single Republican vote. GOP senators vowed to oppose it as well, calling it a colossal waste of money, packed with pork and non-essential spending.

NBC broke down some of the bigger numbers in the bill, for example: $275 billion in tax relief, $90 billion for infrastructure, $79 billion for school funding, etc. Sounds good, right? But in the fine print, there's a lot of proposed spending that may raise a few eyebrows

Where's the pork? - Yahoo! News

But what about the $800 million for Amtrak? Or the $150 million for the Smithsonian Institute? And there's more: So much more, in fact, that the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has set up a website that allows users to comb through the more than 900-page-long bill. You decide: Economic stimulus or wasteful spending?

I love the Smithsonian Museums. I gave them over $100 in each of the past 15 years. Considering I never made above $31k any of those years, I'll assume some deep pockets did more. The government shouldn't be contributing. If Americans don't understand our heritage, it's lost.

How about if they put a few billion in the package to arm the entire US populace with a rifle and enough ammunition to overthrow the government.
Now that's my kind of stimulus package.

Ray boy, are you reading what the stimulus bill is all about, or are you really that fucking stupid? I can't believe what you write. Before you write your BS, at least give it a quick once over. This stimulus package has 25% going to actually create jobs. The 75% is going towards socialists programs, and pork spending that has nothing to do with getting our economy on track. Please don't show everyone just how stupid you really are...OK?

been awhile since i visited these boards. when i come back, i see the same old shit. a little bit of information truncated by insults. glad to see things have improved since the election :doubt:

Economic stimulus. A lot more effective than more tax cuts for the rich..:clap2:

yeah it'd be nice if the largest portion of the spending wasn't for appropriations but rather for stimulus spending.

it'd be nice if the infrastructure spending, that holy grail of keynes disciples, was going to be spent before the end of 2010 too.

I think you will be surprised. In my 56 years of experience--when democrats contolling all houses talk about rich people--it turns out that later, I found out they were talking about my misley income bracket.

Don't be surprised if your taxes are raised or they figure out how to come in the back door with lowering your deductions in order to get more of those tax dollars out of you.

Just a little common sense for you: You really didn't believe that you were going to get a tax cut if you made under 250 K per year, did you? And that somehow those making over 250K were going to be able to pay for your tax cut, & also give a tax rebate check to 40% of the population that pay no income taxes at all. Then these same over 250K people are also going to pay for an additional 1 trillion in spending. Did you really believe all that?

Now just one question for you? Just exactly how many people do you know that make over 250K per year?

"This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China .
If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer it will go to India .
If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras , and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).
If you buy a car it will go to Japan .
If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan .

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America . You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY - no Coronas!), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.

On second thought, I should be rolling on the floor crying because it's true.
