From across the pond, a good question

Those indies are apathetic tools, and the republicans are ignorant assholes. We don't need another party, we need smarter voters and better media, that check stories and aren't afraid of loudmouth idiots. Bring back the fairness doctrine. Pub propaganda is a one sided disgrace, the corporate media are cowards.

The corporate media are "progresssives" and what is referred to as social media is rapidly becoming corrupted.
We can't pull off a revolution without pure communication.

For those claiming the Republican Party's roots were 3rd party, you're just wrong. It was the failure of the Whigs and the Democrat Parties to address the issues of their day. The Democrats had split in the 1830's, many of those opposed to slavery expansion moving to Whigs. Then with the blow up of Missouri Compromise and the Kansas-Nebraska Act, many Whigs and disenfranchised Democrats too were looking for something else. By 1858 they'd found it, the Republican Party. Two years later, that party would elect Abraham Lincoln.

vote for someone besides the usual suspects.....problem solved....

I don't think that 1) that's enough, or 2) it would work because unless everybody votes for the same 'somebody else', a main party person will still win.

the only way to change things is to either get rid of these people or make them wake up and start being leaders instead of plunderers.....

Running any third party which is an off shoot of either of the existing parties guarantees the win to the other major party.

The TEA Party Movement working within the Republican Party is accepting of this idea and so moves within and not against the party to which it is similar.

This is a new thing in my life time and is exciting.

However, it's still true that if you lay down with dogs, you stand up with fleas. The TEA Party is picking up ideas that don't exactly relate to the "Taxed Enough Already" standard of their original stand.

It's the most exciting thing to happen to American politics since the Whigs were overcome by the Republicans.

So your idea is to limit the ideas that can be discussed to only those ideas that you find to be agreeable?

So, something doesn't "work" unless YOU get the result YOU want? Your arrested emotional development is not a political position.

In other words, he's a 'liberal.'

I see the so called "silent majority", not just the tea party, of voters trying to, and are changing the Republican party.
I don't the any of the democratic party trying to change their party. All they are doing is protesting in the streets and not doing anything to change the party.

US elections: Why does the world's greatest democracy offer just two choices?

Because the world’s greatest ‘democracy’ isn’t, it’s a Republic.

In theory and per the Framers’ original intent, who occupied the WH was of little importance. The Nation was to be guided by Congress with the CE acting as a final check on pending legislation. In addition, since all three branches of government are subject to the rule of law, the people have recourse through the courts to address any government excess, including that by the president.

Sadly this is no longer the case, with the aberration of the Imperial Presidency and the politicization of the judiciary.

Today we’re stuck with a broken system, not as a result of a ‘flawed design,’ but as a consequence of the fear and ignorance of the American people.

Unfortunately some try to take advantage of the system hoping to disenfranchise the electorate enough to start calling for a 3rd party.

This disenfranchisement plays into the Demagog Party's hands. If they can use their media to upset enough people they figure that they can split the conservative vote. Meanwhile Obama constantly makes statements like the one yesterday where he briefly, and inappropriately in my opinion, talked about "Empowering Women". The rest of the leaders sitting at the table must have been looking at each other and rolled their eyes with this overt attempt at pandering.

and as long as people have that mentality.....nothing is going to change.....the heads of both parties sure as hell are not going to change ......they need each other to survive....but we dont need them.....

Maybe because there hasn't been too many viable third party candidates yet...

well that could be.....but so many people i see who do nothing but bitch about "their" party just keep right on voting for the same party and just keep on bitching....if you want real change,we the people are going to have to do the changing.....the Democrats and the Republicans sure as hell wont do it,and the people who are just wedded to their party are not going to change, they feel whatever their party does is just great, even if it makes things worse....they just blame the other guys.....at one time it did not seem to matter who was in charge,no matter what they did, they seem to have at least taken care of the country.....now it matters....and we have some of he worst "leaders" for lack of a better word then we have ever had, on both sides.....

Gracious, y'all are needy. This is the second time today.

Hard Candy

Ingredients

3 3/4 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 tablespoon orange, or other flavored extract
1/2 teaspoon food coloring (optional)
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
Directions

In a medium saucepan, stir together the white sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook, stirring, over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Without stirring, heat to 300 to 310 degrees F (149 to 154 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard, brittle threads.
Remove from heat and stir in flavored extract and food coloring, if desired. Pour onto a greased cookie sheet, and dust the top with confectioners' sugar. Let cool, and break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

In Indiana, the TEA party candidate for the Senate won the primary over Dick Luger who has been a fixture in Washington for 30 or so years.

The times, they are a changing'.
