Frightening

Streamline" what process?!? The illegal, unconstitutional flow of federal dollars to a state, for state projects??? Do you understand that people in Vermont, Florida, Georgia, and Texas should not be paying for a high speed rail train in California?

I really don't understand. What the hell is the point in having a 'United States' if the wealth and infrastructure is not shared between them. How on earth is the country supposed to progress? People in Vermont, Florida, Georgia and Texas have already paid for infrastructure in California, just like the people of other states probably paid for the highway you drive on. You seem to be advocating that California becomes a seperate country and manages its own affairs. Am I right? I guess you'll say I'm wrong.

Frank - I'm not being condescending here, I'm being honest - you really need to read the Constitution. The limitations of government are spelled out, and the federal government has no authority to spend money for state highways. That is a STATE issue. If the people of California cannot afford to repair their highways, that is there problem. They have mismanaged their own state, they have fucked up, and they need to figure it out.

We are 50 individual states who are "united" under the 18 enumerated powers in the Constitution. Those 18 enumerated powers aside, each state is intended to be a sovereign entity for the express purpose of preventing a situation like California from pulling down the entire nation.

The beauty of a system of 50 individual sovereign states is that each of us has an escape. If you are a conservative tired of the California Socialism and collapse, you can move to Texas. If you are a liberal who hates personal responsibility and wants to be taken care of by the government, you can move to California and live your Socialist utopia.

Now I must echo your question back to you. I really don't understand. How is taking money from the successful states and filtering it over to the failed states "progress"? That is punishing the successful and rewarding the failures. That would be like spaning your oldest child for a 4.0 report card and then buying your youngest child a pony dropping out of school and getting arrested for cocaine.

Don't punish the entire nation because California ran itself into the ground with Communism/Marxism/Socialism (as those policies always do). Don't allow that one state to run the entire nation into the ground. If those people don't like it, they can move the hell out to better run states. Otherwise, they need to fix the fucking mess they created by themselves.

"Obama Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood hailed China as a model for government efficiency this week, saying: "The Chinese are more successful [in building infrastructure] because in their country, only three people make the decision. In our country, 3,000 people do, 3 million."

The left has become so radical, it is down right crazy. They bash freedom, choice, and America while praising Communism, oppression, and dictators. Can you imagine just 20 years ago a member of any presidents cabinet stating that China is so much better because just a few dictators make all the decisions, while America sucks because we have discussions and debate on what is best?

This party has become so radical and so unhinged. Thankfully, because of that, their numbers are shrinking every year (down to a laughable 21% of American's who are registered Democrats). If not for that, these maniacs would be a serious threat to the globe.

I had a lot of respect for Ray Lahood. Then he became an Obama drone and that was that.

It is obvious the far right extremists believe that technology and events do not change America.

They are dead wrong.

We the People govern this country, not the states. Get that straight, Far Right Weirdos.

Son, your far too young to understand these adult issue. Just go play with your Nintendo and leave the adults to talk.

Our founders, being exponentially smarter than our 14 year old Jakey Starkey here, realized two very important things:

1.) They didn't know everything

2.) They could not see the future, and thus had no idea what kinds of impacts would require adjustment in our laws

As such, they built in a process to alter the US Constitution - it's called admendments. And if 'lil Jakey Starkey wasn't 14, he would understand that THAT is how you make changes necessary based on "technology" and/or "events". A person does not just get to stand up and change everything based on their own opinion.

But since 'lil Jakey Starkey is only 14, he can't discuss this stuff. He's not aware of it, has never read the US Constitution, and is too ignorant of the facts to even make a constructed argument. You notice he can't even give ONE SINGLE EXAMPLE of a "technology" or an "event" that requires a change to the Constitution?

By the way, the young lad is so ignorant, he doesn't even realize that because the US is governed by "We the people" - it is the very reason why the states were given all of the power. Because your voice, your vote, and your influence carry's exponentially more weight at the state level than it does at the federal level.

See, 'lil Jakey is so uneducated, he doesn't realize at the sate level, "We The People" actuallly elect our representatives. While at the federal level, the Electoral College elects the President, and not "We The People".

Only a child would talk about the people having power and then reject the states powers, in which the peoiple have all of the control

Ok, time to block-block-blockey you now 'lil Jakey Starkey. You're just too ignorant, to immature, to annoying, and only talk about people posting instead of the facts, the issues, the policies, or the situations.

Change does come to society, and Articles III and V of the Constitution were created to provide governance for their effect on society. First, the Supreme Court of the United States is given original jurisdiction in Article III, which encompasses the principle of original jurisdiction. A majority of the states' constitutions at the time recognized the principle and the majority of the Founders who wrote about the principle were in favor of it. Second, Article V gives us the principle of Amending the Constitution.

We the People were given the Constitution with states merely acting as our creatures, not We the People the creatures of the various states. Both Jefferson and Calhoun argued that states had a distinct ability to nullify federal action within the states. They were both in the minority.

A great federal war put the silliness of Rottweilers et al to finish.

The actions of We the People in Congress assembled given approval by SCOTUS renders put to silly adaptation of Calhoun by today's extremist far right.

Jefferson was wrong, Calhoun was wrong, and the far right wingers are wrong.

What is comforting is that their numbers and the influence remain so meager and will continue to wither with time.
