Also John Wight, who has written for newspapers and websites across the world, including the Independent, Morning Star, Huffington Post, Counterpunch, London Progressive Journal, and Foreign Policy Journal and also is a regular commentator on RT and BBC Radio. He was interviewed by RT about French lawmakers’ visit to Crimea.

RT: The French Foreign Minister said he was shocked by the visit. Why did he react so strongly?

John Wight: He is following a hawkish ideological line that comes from Washington that Russia has to be treated to a threat to European domination backed up by Washington. But as I said I think that a schism is starting to appear in France and all over the EU and in the US with regard to this policy – it is unsustainable. Those who follow this policy are leading the world to disaster because terrorism is growing, it is not going away. And the idea that we’re discussing a rapid reaction force, for example, in Eastern Ukraine and Latvia to contain Russia, when there is no such rapid reaction force being spoken about with regard to ISIS - it just shows you the cognitive dissonance that is driving this policy.

RT: Will we see other European delegations visit the disputed region?

John Wight: Yes, this is going to encourage other such delegations, people want to get to the bottom of this. They know that the standoff that is in place in Donbass is not going to last forever and they want to see how things are in Crimea. There was a referendum, overwhelmingly people there voted to rejoin the Russian Federation and…they are not living in conditions of unimaginable privation and suffering as the propaganda would have us believe. These delegations could only help the leaders who are responsible for the policy to come to their senses and understand that this situation in Eastern Ukraine, this crisis will not be resolved through confrontation or sanctions but only by negotiation.

French parliament member Jerome Lambert, who visited Crimea together with a group of ten French legislators, told Sputnik that the visit showed that US propaganda over Crimea is understandable even though it does not reflect realities on the peninsula.

"The US is trying to deploy in Europe and counteract Russia. The American point of view is understandable. And when there is an understanding of this, there are explanations to American propaganda, the propaganda of some US allies in Europe," Jerome Lambert said.

"We met hundreds, thousands of people, many of whom talked to us, many thanked us for coming, for our interest in the Crimean situation, for the reestablishment of a normal status because the current situation is not normal due to the embargo, and so on," Lambert told Sputnik.

Pozzo di Borgo said that the legislators will talk about what they saw when they return to France, and hopes that European Parliament members will also visit Crimea to see what is happening there. According to Pozzo di Borgo, European diplomacy cannot truthfully inform people about Crimea, putting it into a sort of "black hole," which he compared to Cuba's relationship with sanctions.

"We should not repeat Cuba's experience, which stayed in a black hole for 50 years, as Mariani said. But there is hope that Crimea won't stay there. I personally hope that the Minsk agreements will be followed, after which it is necessary for Ukraine and Russia together with the EU to look at how the Crimean issue can be resolved, because people live there, two million residents who are right now in this black hole," Pozzo di Borgo told Sputnik.

According to Pozzo di Borgo, Europe must act as a "civilized continent" and not impose an embargo on Crimea as the United States did to Cuba for 50 years.

Did the French meet with any of the actual Crimean's, Tatar's, who have been arrested and imprisoned by the Russian occupation forces, or have all the traditional Crimean citizens willing to speak out already been shipped off to the Siberian camps and prisons to what is left of their ancestors that were shipped there in the old days of Russian colonization? Maybe the Russians killed all those old timers they deported from their own country years ago with all the others they put into those death camps.
Hopefully the Russians will keep some of the Tatars alive. Maybe put them in a zoo so folks in the future can see what the original Crimean's looked like.

PARIS, July 30 /TASS/. French weekly magazine Valeurs Actuelles on Thursday published an exclusive report about the Crimean voyage of ten French lawmakers who represented both chambers of the French parliament /the Senate and the National Assembly/. Its author described the trip as the "Crimean premiere."

The French lawmakers became convinced that Crimea had avoided war and anarchy unlike many trouble spots in Ukraine, the magazine went on to say. "The military and police presence was moderate. The people of Crimea did not look like they were leaving under occupation. On the contrary, they were happy that they had made their choice in favour of Russia and could now live in peace," the report’s author who accompanied the French lawmakers on their Crimean voyage said.

"It is necessary to visit a place yourself in order to understand how things are," the French lawmaker stressed.

Commenting on the position of Crimean Tatars during his stay in Sevastopol, Mariani said they did not look unhappy at all.

"Lots of distorted information is roaming around Europe. I met Crimean Tatars in Yalta. They did not look unhappy at all. On the contrary, they invited me to attend their forum and said that after Crimea’s reunification with Russia their language was granted official status," Mariani said.

German Parliamentarians to Discuss Visit to Crimea Sputnik International

Last week, Italy’s influential opposition Five Star Movement (M5S) party confirmed to Sputnik it would send a "delegation of peace" to Moscow and the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea in October.
“There is no interest in it, and Italian media is not interested about it, they do not talk about it,” Fabrizio Bertot, also a former member of the European parliament, said.
