Freedom follows Christianity...

Interesting article. In countries where freedom is diminishing, so is Christianity. In countries where freedom and liberty are increasing, Christianity is increasing.

Coincidence? No, since the basic tenet of Christianity is equality.

" The Christian population has shifted dramatically over the last century away from Europe to Africa, Asia and the Americas, yet Christians overall remain the largest religious group in the world, according to a new analysis released Monday."

News from The Associated Press

That is such bullshit.

People left Europe to get away from the clutches of the church.

Uganda passed laws with the help of American evangelicals to kill people over who they love.

ALL of the gay hate comes from religion.

The Chinese, nor the Indian(people of India) are big on Islam. If you ask them, they probably would "Muslims are insane"

What are you guys talking about??

Atheists are oppressive Brutes that do not believe in any rights of man. Atheists think that since they claim that there is no god, people should treat them as if they are god by default and people should do as they say.

Is that not right Koshergirl?

OK--now shut up and get me my Tea! Nope, nope, don't question me! I am GOD!!

If you look at the spread of Christianity across the globe over the past few hundred years, and the spread of democracy across the globe, it's pretty apparent that the two have at least spread simultaneously, hand-in-hand. Does Christianity necessarily bring freedom? Probably not, but the message of Christianity is one of grace and salvation by faith, not based on race, creed, or station in life. The two do share some concepts which seems to allow and even encourage their coexistence.

I mean liberty to vote, to go without a veil, to go to school. Basic liberty. Liberty to live.

I'm not talking about Cortez, Columbus, and the Catholic Church plundering the New World. That's a different class and a different time.

As far as "the Catholic Church plundering the New World", it was the Catholic Church that OBJECTED to the exploitation and mistreatment of the people of the New World.

You guys are so incredibly ignorant. Do you ever actually crack a book or do a search before assuming that A&E special you watched 15 years ago or that romance novel you just finished is accurate, and run with it?

The Catholic church also argued (unsuccessfully) against slavery.

You can't seem to make the connect that religion in and of itself is just religion. It's when GOVERNMENTS step in and decide they will force this or that government upon a people that things start rocking.

It's when GOVERNMENTS dictate to people what, when, where they may worship, that the problems begin. And that includes governments telling people they may not worship in public.

Like others I could name. Only at least I'm repetitive about facts, instead of just random insults.

I see you're on a holiday trolling tear...

Is today the solstice? I shall observe it tonight, I think....

Meanwhile, here's a site that aims to educate middle-school aged kids. Why don't you start reading up on the Middle Ages?

Middle Ages

Which was more important to end slavery and promote freedom across?

The British Empire(Big Government)
Or the Catholic Church(Big Religion)?

Give up? The British empire. Of course it took a small religious organization(Quakers) to influence the Brits. But once the moral and philosophical understandings of why slavery was evil, the Brits invested people, political influence and treasure to abolish slavery.

You guys really don't care much for people in general, do you? You hate them so much that you will not acknowledge those things that help them.

Freedom and equality are Christian tenets. In countries where Christianity blooms, so do they. In countries where Christianity, specifically, is demonized and oppressed, so is freedom and equality.

England and Europe have gone downhill since their migration away from Christianity. The article does support that, and anyone who denies that is just a lying anti-Christian propagandist.

Heil.

To understand the Founders is to understand the classical liberalism of the Anglo-American tradition predicated on the Lockean political theory of natural law as summarized, for example, in the Declaration of Independence. Every freedom loving person should be steeped in the Two Treatises of Government by John Locke. In today's political parlance, think a synthesis of "Tea Party" conservatism and libertarianism, sans the latter's tendency to recklessly disregard the first principles of private property, i.e., the sanctity of human life and the official approbation of the biological family of nature. This model was extrapolated from the socio-political ramifications of Judeo-Christianity's ethical system of thought. It is the nearest thing to perfect liberty and justice attainable in this world.

Wow. Epic logic fail. The European countries, particularly the Scandinavian ones, tend to be both less religious and more free than we are.

These socialist states are freer than we in this country? LOL!

This is idiocy – per your cited article the Christian population is decreasing in the most free countries in Western Europe, the population is growing in places were democracy or constitutional republics don’t exist:

About one-quarter of the global Christian population can now be found in sub-Saharan Africa…
You do know some of the most brutal dictatorships are in sub-Saharan Africa, yes?

Incorrect, not in sub-Saharan Africa.

You’ve provided no evidence or documentation that where there’s an icrease in the Christian population, there’s an increase in personal freedom and liberty.

If anything, the cited article indicates that countries with a decreasing Christian population are among the most free.

Evidence?

I'll have to research it some more.

I should think so, not that you’ll find any results.
I couldn't just put up another thread that says "Islam is oppressive". It's true, but it's not the point I'm making.

The point you’re making is there are a significant number of Christians who suffer from the sins of arrogance and intolerance.

Yah...she needs to go spend a couple of weeks in sub-Saharan Africa, and see how God-fearing those people are.

Well that makes zero sense. Thanks for proving yourself officially brain dead. The lobotomy took. Congrats.
