Free Speech vs an Angry Islamic World

No one made the film for freedom of speech. Their intentions were to insult Muslims and send the a message.

I agree but in our culture there is freedom of speech that includes the right to hold opinions others find insulting. How does that give Muslims a right to destroy and/or terrorize and/or murder people who had absolutely nothing to do with the film? Or even those who did put out the film?

And if Muslims are allowed to terroize us into moderating our speech, what else could they be allowed to terrorize us into doing or not doing?

What do you mean "our" culture? It wasn't because your culture freedom of speech was allowed.

Protesting isn't terororism. That attack with RPGs was. Muslims didn't change absolutely nothing about our freedom of speech. They just encouraged more people to do that. But they should just forget about it.

Muslim countries don't allow insults against any Prophet of the God of Abraham because it is not needed. Pathetic sick people do that. I'm not fine with going rioting at an embassy. That's not needed. Holding up signs and condemning the man and the film. Would have been the best thing. Acting stupid and yelling isn't the way to go. But are you seriously scared of people yelling on tv? I've been to Egypt a bit after the revolutions. There is nothing scary about people yelling. You need to grow up a bit.

The people who are out there to demonize Muslims should a message sent to them by Muslims. Its stupid to keep making anti Muslim movies that have no intention other than demonizng Muslims and are made by racist anti Islam people. That said they can be allowed all they want but they are overdoing it.

Any religion that needs man made laws to protect it from people who say bad things isn't going to do much for anyone who follows if.

Most people respect highly respected figures. Those laws are simply for people who want to start problems between people. If a Muslim in lebonan went and started cursing Jesus. You bet the Christians and Muslims would start fighting. It creates problems in the Middle East. The Middle East isn't America. Get over it

Okay, yet again. . . . .

The topic of this thread is the issue of free speech and our responsibility to exercise it prudently versus violent retaliation committed because somebody exercised their right to free speech. Most recently this was the current unrest in the Middle East including the murders and assaults at the U.S. consulate in Lybia.

Because there obviously are Muslims who are easily incited to violence if they perceive an insult of their faith, what if any responsibility does the free person bear when he exercises his freedom to insult the Muslim faith?

None whatsoever.

And once again:

Their acts of violence are criminal, not religious – the free speaker is in no way responsible for the criminal acts of those who react violently to that speech; those committing acts of violence bear sole responsibility.

The only way the free speaker can be held responsible is if he knows that his speech will result in imminent lawless activity, which is not possible with a film, internet presentation, or other act of free expression in some general, universal venue.

Let me make it simple for you, any god that needs men to fight his battles isn't worthy of respect. Allah demands that his followers help him because he can't fight his own fights, he is not worthy of respect.

As I have commented, more than once, there is no responsibility to be prudent when we exercise our right to free speech.

Once again, just because you do not view their actions as religious does not mean they are not religious.
