This week's execution of Troy Davis has provoked an international outcry and renewed debate in the United States over the death penalty. With the fifth-most executions per year of any country, America finds itself on a list with some of the world's worst human rights abusers.

Foreign Policy, an American foreign policy media, selected the nations with the most executions done : China, Iran, and North Korea.

North Korea is on the 3rd with approximately 60 executions done.
However, this was only done with official records, but considering all the human rights abuse and secret abusing that go on in North Korea, North Korea practically and easily tops the list, I believe.

North Korea, where dictatorship has been passed down to the third generation, has been proven to be the land of human rights abuse by the testimonies of the defectors. Political prisons inside are full of violence and public executions, and the agents that look over these facilities rape, torture, and abuse the prisoners as if they were nothing.

North Korean citizens' rights and lives are nothing more than a piece of trash on the street.
Although North Korea may be the third on the official list, they sure are qualified to be the first unofficially.

While they certainly top the list in terms of insanely oppressive shit-holes, it's unlikely they can match China in raw number of executions.

There is no real comparison between our methods of capital punishment and Iran/China/Norks methods of capital punishment.

First, all of our executions are documented and public, with the full transcripts of the trial of the condemned open for review. You cannot say that about the other 3.

Second, our executions take more than a decade to perform, in which the convicted murderer has ample time to appeal to either prove his innocence, or reduce his sentence. There are also plenty of groups that will do this for free. In the other three places executions are far more summary, and the judiciary that would hear the appeals is not a true independent branch of the government, but often just a rubber stamp of the political leadership.

Finally, we execute people for murder only (there hasnt been a treason execution in a long time), and usually only aggrevated murder. Those places execute people for just about anything, including political dissent.

Amnesty International says China executed more people than whole world combined
Tuesday 27th March, 2012 - China has sentenced more number people to death in 2011 than the rest of the world put together, Amnesty International has said.

The group, in its annual report, said that there was a surge in the number of executions carried out worldwide last year, mainly centred in the Middle East. The report said Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia were most responsible for the increase. According to the report, at least 676 people were executed in 20 countries in 2011, according to Amnesty, compared with 527 in 23 countries in 2010.

Amnesty no longer publishes figures for China, where the data is considered a state secret. The rights group believes the figure to be in the thousands, The BBC reports. The group noted that most executions were carried out in Iran, which sent 360 people to their deaths, many of them for offences under new anti-drug laws brought in last year.

In Saudi Arabia, there were at least 82 executions compared to at least 27 the previous year, while Iraq executed at least 68 people, compared to at least one in 2010, according to the report. The group, however, also noted that fewer countries now practice the death penalty. It said the number of countries using capital punishment has fallen by a third, compared to a decade ago.
