Fox News Calls Mr. Rogers Evil

Only Fox could take this nonsense seriously and actually have one bird brain agree with the premise. Our boys watched the show.

According to many teachers the kids today are often the way the simpletons on Fox describe them, but I would attribute it to parents and American culture. Asian students who have been Americanized are the same as our wonder kids. I am not sure why. Could it be we have it too easy today? Our parents drilled the great depression into our heads so whatever we had was great. Madison avenue on the other hand preaches a gospel of materialism. Money is gawd in America, so changing that value is a bit hard. If the stats are true and our life is so much better and easier what does that do to a person's psyche.

"I was raised to be ashamed of my ignorance, and to try to do something about it if at all possible. I carry that burden to this day, and have successfully passed it on to my children. I don’t believe I have the right to an opinion about something I know nothing about—constitutional law, for example, or sailing—a notion that puts me sadly out of step with a growing majority of my countrymen, many of whom may be unable to tell you anything at all about Islam, say, or socialism, or climate change, except that they hate it, are against it, don’t believe in it. Worse still (or more amusing, depending on the day) are those who can tell you, and then offer up a stew of New Age blather, right-wing rant, and bloggers’ speculation that’s so divorced from actual, demonstrable fact, that’s so not true, as the kids would say, that the mind goes numb with wonder. “Way I see it is,” a man in the Tulsa Motel 6 swimming pool told me last summer, “if English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it’s good enough for us.”

Quite possibly, this belief in our own opinion, regardless of the facts, may be what separates us from the nations of the world, what makes us unique in God’s eyes. The average German or Czech, though possibly no less ignorant than his American counterpart, will probably consider the possibility that someone who has spent his life studying something may have an opinion worth considering. Not the American. Although perfectly willing to recognize expertise in basketball, for example, or refrigerator repair, when it comes to the realm of ideas, all folks (and their opinions) are suddenly equal. Thus evolution is a damned lie, global warming a liberal hoax, and Republicans care about people like you."

Fox didn't say it, an academic from LSU did. And, the same topic has been covered at length in The Journal of Higher Education for years.

From the WSJ piece:
....

Signs of narcissism among college students have been rising for 25 years, according to a recent study led by a San Diego State University psychologist. Obviously, Mr. Rogers alone can't be blamed for this. But as Prof. Chance sees it, "he's representative of a culture of excessive doting."

....

If you had read the thread rather than being a knee-jerk liberal, you wouldn't look so foolish.

The left must hate academics.

Do sports programs have disclaimers that the program is about sports instead of News?

Fox and Friends is a morning chat "light current events" type of program. Anyone who has ever seen it recognizes the genre.

Fox just sucks all the around.

If you actually bothered to view the clip, they were laughing about it. Then two of the hosts took different sides: one defending Mr. Rogers, the other the study. They also presented comments from the viewing audience who agreed and disagreed with the study.

If that's all you got, Zona, then you ain't got much.

Just sayin'.

What a knee-slapper, huh? Fucking Fox "News" ...

Why didn't you fully quote the pundits on Fox?? They were simply discussing an article from the Wall Street Journal. And if you are interested in the ’study’ done by the LSU professor, it’s available at the Wall Street Journal: Blame It on Mr. Rogers: Why Young Adults Feel So Entitled.
Because that would require Neser Boha to actually think for herself rather than parroting some blog whom she allows to think for her. Why folks allow others to think for them is beyond me. I always check.

It's a perfect example of the death of critical thought.

Haha, you guys are really sad. Trying to defend such a useless 'news' channel at all costs ... Why should I spend time 'researching' such an insignificant matter? One of my facebook buddies posted it on his wall and I thought it was funny - like much of the bullshit coming out of Fox, especially lately.

Mr. Rogers was excellent entertainment for very young kids.

Preschooler, mostly.

IOW: You post bullshit without seeing if it's true.

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind when reading your posts

You're intellecually lazy, you admit to being lazy (ONLY after being outed for being so), and you say others are 'sad' because others said what you now know about your OP? Now we know a bit about your character, too.

I think the message that the hosts tried to push was purdy damn clear ;) Both the ditzy blonde and the fuckwad with a chip on his shoulder were yelling over each other trying to upstage each other in how evil they thought Mr. Rogers was ...

I also love the balanced debate a la Fox News and their egregious choice of topics ... FUCKING HILARIOUS :D

Damn, you really ARE stupid. You post an OP parroting blogs and Facebook and can't think for yourself. THEN, you post a video claiming they are discussing how evil Rogers was and the word 'evil' was ONLY in your head.

Drugs are not a good idea for those who value rational thought.

Little did I know, Mr. Rogers was an evil man. By telling children they’re special just for being who they are, he helped create this generation of worthless, lazy socialists who think they’re entitled to health care… at least according to Fox News.

They actually use the word “evil” to describe Mr. Rogers and criticize him for his “optimistic message where everyone was special even if they didn’t deserve it”, which is “ruining kids with a sense of entitlement.” Then one of them starts babbling about how children should go back to churning butter and making their own sweaters. Fox’s Brian Kilmeade said “that man unintentionally did a whole generation or two a disservice.” Only on Fox could a man who spent his life dedicated to public service and education be blamed for ruining generations of Americans.

What a knee-slapper, huh? Fucking Fox "News" ...

Fox is a lot like some posters around here. They barrel fish for subjects that have little to do with the issues, make claims they don't support or retract, and pretend they've accomplished something based on nothing but "atta boy!" from people who never admit they are wrong.

So now you will bitch at me for the use of one word? Yeah, they didn't say VERBATIM that he was evil, but both of the hosts were more than eager to claim how much Mr. Rogers fucks kids up (hence the word, evil).

You're such a fucking retard, keep on embarrassing yourself, dickwad, it's rather entertaining. Let's see how much further you will go to defend such UNABASHED TRASH as Fox "News" is.

Umm, yeah. When you lie about what was said, I point it out. :cuckoo: If my pointing out your lack of critical thought, your intellectual laziness, and your lie is defense of some network in your twisted thought processes, you really should seek professional help.
