Who’s Fair and Balanced?: Fox News Channel’s coverage was more balanced toward both parties
than the broadcast networks were. On FOX, evaluations of all Democratic candidates combined were
split almost evenly – 51% positive vs. 49% negative, as were all evaluations of GOP candidates – 49%
positive vs. 51% negative, producing a perfectly balanced 50-50 split for all candidates of both parties.
On the three broadcast networks, opinion on Democratic candidates split 47% positive vs. 53%
negative, while evaluations of Republicans were more negative – 40% positive vs. 60% negative. For
both parties combined, network evaluations were almost 3 to 2 negative in tone, i.e. 41% positive vs.
59% negative.
Policy Debate: The campaign coverage has been relatively issue oriented -- 188 stories dealt with
policy issues, 191 with campaign strategy and tactics, 162 on the candidates’ standings in the horse
race, and 122 on heir personal backgrounds. (A story could cover more than one of these topics.) The
most frequently debated policy issues were #1. Illegal immigration, 32 stories; #2 Iraq, 22 stories; #3
Electoral reforms, 18 stories; #4 Abortion, 13 stories; #5 Iran, 12 stories.
Methodology
The Center for Media and Public Affairs is a media research organization that uses scientific content
analysis to study news and entertainment media content. CMPA is affiliated with the George Mason
University, where CMPA President Dr. S. Robert Lichter is Professor of Communications.

I have to question a person's good sense when they say Fox news is balanced. Have they watched it I wonder. For us channel surfers it is always a joy to stop at Faux news for a few minutes. If it isn't straight reporting you can be guaranteed they will be criticizing some democrat for something. I wonder sometimes if any democrats watch it, it would make the viewer wonder about their party's general failure in all things, which given they are now the majority must then reflect back on the American people.

Have you watched the other ones? They are worse... They are saying of them all Fox is the most balanced. They do show both sides. The others tend to show only one. Yeah so most of their hosts would be considered conservative, doesn't mean that they don't put both sides in for the debate. They try to have someone from each side of a debate come in. If one side chooses not to, well that's their choice. Can't force someone to step forward and debate. I find I get more from both sides of the topics from Fox than on CNN, MSNBC or the locals.

Fair and balanced?

From fellow journalist and blogger Don Surber, whom I often agree with: Who is the fairest of them all? The Center for Media and Public Affairs finds that Fox News is.

With all due respect, do you mean this CMPA? Or do you mean this CMPA? Or do you mean this CMPA?

Very little is fair and balanced anymore, especially when it comes to cable news. Instead, it's degrees of bias and whether or not they are open about it.

Study of Bias or Biased Study?
The Lichter Method and the Attack on PBS Documentaries

The Center for Media and Public Affairs, a conservative media research group, timed the release of its study of public TV programming to coincide with the congressional debate over public broadcasting reauthorization. The group’s report lends what appears to be empirical support to those who claim that PBS is biased to the left: "On the social and political controversies addressed by PBS documentaries across a full year of programs," it concludes, "the balance of opinion tilted consistently in a liberal direction."

An examination of the group’s findings, however, demolishes this conclusion. The study relies on methodology that ignores the overwhelming majority of material in PBS documentaries. It then draws sweeping conclusions based on the remaining, out-of-context material, and frames these conclusions in ways that are often misleading or deceptive.

LIbs don't know what balance means, so we can't expect them to recognize it when they see it.

Sure its balanced if you calculate the guest appearances, but I would like a stat of actual talking time that liberal guests get. Mr shut up Bill Oriealy never lets anyone talk. Glenn beck is too loud to let anyone talk. Hannity's ego takes over the talk time on his show. Shall I go on?

Today is not the day that stupid ad hominems trump 5 sources that show how the researcher might have had a reason to polish the Fox turd, Allie.

Sorry. Maybe next week sometime.

They're strong personalities, which is what you want. It's not their fault that the opposition can't hold up. Libs think we're biased if we don't give them the soft shoe and pass on all the tough questions....which is what their own media has trained them to expect.

Too bad, so sad.

What media? Where? CNN? Name one liberal media outlet that is pure bias like fox. Is there any hosts on any national network explaining why they dont believe in god and bringing guest's on to debate and shout about stupid sympathetic rehtorical garbage?

At least unbiased networks dont have washed up old TV star guests on shouting "the painting must have had a painter" 15 times making absolutely no sense.

Strong personalities don't erase the bias produced when creating a study ABOUT YOUR FORMER BOSS.

good grief. It's almost too easy, Allie. It's like a slam dunk contest against coma victims at this point.

FOX Is Most Balanced (CENTER FOR MEDIA & PUBLIC AFFAIRS)

That's not saying much. They're all trying to spoon feed us with what they think is news. Before the advent of cable, news agencies actually reported the news. Now they create it.
