A Fox News host has drawn the ire of the internet after speculating on air what could have caused the disappearance of AsiaAir Flight QZ8501.

The flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore went missing early this morning over the Java Sea, shortly after the pilot asked for a change in altitude due to severe weather.

Fox News co-host Anna Kooiman interviewed former FAA spokesperson Scott Brenner about the search for the missing flight Sunday morning, asking the airline industry insider whether foreign pilots were at a disadvantage since they were trained using the metric system.

'Even when we think about temperature, it's Fahrenheit or Celsius,' Kooiman said. 'It's kilometers or miles. You know, everything about their training could be similar, but different.'

We can always count of fox for stupid and/or lying.

There actually was one such case, the Gimli Glider of 1983, when a Canadian pilot miscalculated the fuel loadout due to Canada's recent switch to metric. The 767 ran out of fuel midflight, but they managed to glide it down to an unused airstrip near Gimli, Manitoba.

However, given the whole planet except the USA uses metric now, it's likely only US pilots will have the confusion, or foreign pilots in the USA.

That is on a par with "gays will die out because they don't reproduce." (Pat Robertson)

When fox is not lying, they're getting it wrong.

Or sometimes they like to mix it up and do both at once.

I can see where she was going. The idea that there may be pilots out there confusing metric and English measurements and losing planes is fear candy, and that is after all Fox Noise's main product --- fear.

Just look at the caption on the screencap: "Considered "pioneer" in cheap travel to Asia" --- implying that somehow being "cheap" means they can follow cheaper safety rules.

They never let up, these Fox Noise makers.

Yes, ginning up fear is one of the first tactics on the to-do lists of: fascists.
