Wyden stressed that he's been highly proactive on measures that could actually helps victims of sexual exploitation. But FOSTA "is not going to prevent sex trafficking [and] it's not going to stop young people from becoming victims," he noted. In fact, "the legislation before the Senate is going to make it harder, not easier, to root out and prosecute sex traffickers."

This isn't just Wyden's opinion. The Department of Justice has not only called FOSTA unconstitutional; it says the legislation will "create additional elements that prosecutors must prove at trial," thereby making it harder to get guilty parties convicted.

"You're heading in the wrong direction if you [pass a bill] that would raise the burden of proof in cases against sex traffickers," Wyden chastised his colleagues. He was one of two senators today—along with Rand Paul (R-Kentucky)—to vote against the measure.

Congress just censored the internet and put sex workers, trafficking victims in even more danger

Craigslist personals shut down indefinitely due to recently passed 'FOSTA'

Hours After FOSTA Passes, Reddit Bans 'Escorts' and 'SugarDaddy' Communities

Because if you can't see it then it doesn't exist. I have seen some stupid crap but this forces trafficking further underground and it makes it harder to catch them. I have to wonder did anyone in the Congress read this (outside of Wyden and Rand Paul).

But but but they had to do something. LMAO Kind of makes you wonder how many other laws will be passed with that mindset, with no regards for the unintended consequences.

I think they do know exactly what they are doing. They make it disappear so they can't see it and then there is no problem. How in the hell are these people still in office?

Since there is no constitutional basis for prostitution to be illegal, the advertising of such should not be either

Does that mean I can go to Vegas and not be bombarded by people on the street trying to sell prostitutes to everyone?

Nope, only applies to online advertising, those hooker card clicking guys and gals will still be on The Strip.

Another fine example of "doing something" not really doing anything.

I enjoyed my two trips there, although we added both times a trip to Hoover Dam, and one time a trip to Death Valley to get away from the ritz and glitz.

Now my favorite town is New Orleans, i.e. Mecca for drinkers, and there if the mood strikes them the womenfolk show off the top goods for beads.

Whatever is working girl to do! Solicitation is already a crime. Online ads manage to get around that already. Not to mention these idiots seem to think that prostitution never existed before the internet.

I suspect there is going to be a strong first amendment case for overthrowing this.

You know, instead of going after the working girls, why not do what a lot of European countries do? They legalize it, and make the women get monthly health exams and tax them on their earnings. In Catania Sicily, they have a red light district that is several blocks big, and when you go up to one of the girls sitting at the door to their place of business, you have the right to ask to see her health card. If she doesn't show it to you, or you see that it is expired, you can simply walk away and nothing happens. Incidentally, that part of the town is probably one of the safest places in the city. Why? It's patrolled during operating hours (6:00 pm to 1:00 am) by the Carabineri, which is the Italian State Police, and the regular city cops.

Spain had some pretty decent brothels as well.
