Former Marine's injury spurs vets to join Occupy movement

So now when Vets do something, they are fake vets because anyone can buy military uniforms? Is the right really this bad?

Veterans are people, they can take sides in debates, however if they want to wear a uniform and taunt the police I don't think much of their choices. I will still salute their service.....

But being a veteran doesn't make you special in most instances......

Seriously? You actually believe that citizens, no matter how many in number, have the capability to overthrow the government with whatever weapons cache they can amass?
While contingent on numbers, purpose, intelligent organization and motivation, a successful revolution is quite possible.

But your interesting question calls attention to the rise of an intimidating, nationwide, internal paramilitary police entity during the past three decades. While law enforcement is the ostensible purpose of the increasing presence of "SWAT" units within community police agencies the collective effect manifests as government's preparation for aggressive resistance to assertive civil disobedience.

Oppressive police response to OSW is manifest evidence of increasing police militarization.

If you have any doubts I have to think you're fooling yourself. If a high precentage of Amerians felt it had to be done it most certainly would be.

A second American revolution would come about slowly, fostered by something as seemingly impotent as OWS. After major confrontations begin the military is quite likely to find itself preoccupied with incursion by foreign forces seeking to take advantage of the situation.

The military would be most efficiently defensive of government in the beginning but as time goes on individual members would become resentful of actions against their own families, friends, and communities. And when still others think things over and develop intellectual and political resentment of the military's repressive action, defections, betrayals and theft of heavy weapons would begin and would gradually turn the tide.

There is no question that hundreds of thousands if not millions of rebels would be killed by the military during a protracted rebellion. But each of the deaths would turn more formerly passive citizens against government.

It's plumb loco to believe that any number of citizens with guns can "overthrow the government"

Certainly not by force.

America is the world's POWER HOUSE, with mass weapons of destructions capable of totally desiminating other nations. Our citizens do not stand a chance against such force.

No way in hell. Pardon my French.

With that said, the only way there can be anything done is similar to your last post, where many, many, many, many people will have to first die, and the military themselves (aka the government or the government power rather) will have to be soured to the point of DISOBEYING their orders, posts and commands. For this to happen on a massive scale...seems next to impossible.

It's a nice fantasy anarchists have, but those things are only real in Hollywood.

That's about it.
