Forced sertilization, who promoted it

I'm sure you are aware of the Progressives...

" At a March 1925 international birth control gathering in New York City, a speaker warned of the menace posed by the "black" and "yellow" peril. The man was not a Nazi or Klansman; he was Dr. S. Adolphus Knopf, a member of Margaret Sanger's American Birth Control League (ABCL), which along with other groups eventually became known as Planned Parenthood.

Sanger's other colleagues included avowed and sophisticated racists. One, Lothrop Stoddard, was a Harvard graduate and the author of The Rising Tide of Color against White Supremacy. Stoddard was something of a Nazi enthusiast who described the eugenic practices of the Third Reich as "scientific" and "humanitarian." And Dr. Harry Laughlin, another Sanger associate and board member for her group, spoke of purifying America's human "breeding stock" and purging America's "bad strains." These "strains" included the "shiftless, ignorant, and worthless class of antisocial whites of the South."

Not to be outdone by her followers, Margaret Sanger spoke of sterilizing those she designated as "unfit," a plan she said would be the "salvation of American civilization.: And she also spike of those who were "irresponsible and reckless," among whom she included those " whose religious scruples prevent their exercising control over their numbers." She further contended that "there is no doubt in the minds of all thinking people that the procreation of this group should be stopped." That many Americans of African origin constituted a segment of Sanger considered "unfit" cannot be easily refuted."

And, of course, President Obama's 'scienc czar' John Holdren, pretty much the same.

Something tells me this thread hasn't gone over as TM planned.

We can't forget the American Father of ethanasia, Cass Sunstein! Rather than simply sterlizing the unfit, he wants to murder them!

True. Anyone who's read his books should know what kind of human being Sunstein is.

Oh, and while we're at it.... we might as well throw Mark Lloyd into the frame too.

What do all these people have in common? All advocates of Saul Alinsky.

Would it be piling on to include to include Justice Holmes?

a. The most revered of liberal icons, Oliver Wendell Holmes, concurred with eugenics, to the extent that he attempted to write it into the Constitution. . In 1927, a young unwed mother named Carrie Buck was sterilized against her will by order of the Supreme Court, decision (Buck v. Bell) written by Oliver Wendell Holmes, who said : ”The principle that sustains compulsory vaccination is broad enough to cover cutting the Fallopian tubes.” It turned out that she was not retarded, as the state had contended. Based on the Buck Decision, more than 60 thousand were operated on across the U.S. as late as the 1970’s. And the opinion was adopted in Germany, where, within a year, some 56 thousand German ‘patients’ had been sterilized.

b. The only vote against the state, in an 8-1 decision was the archconservative and only Catholic on the court, Pierce Butler. “Butler was a Roman Catholic and a Democrat, but was also, most importantly, a political conservative.” Pierce Butler

I think you sprained TM's brain with all these facts.

She has to recognize two truths. One that Forced Sterilization and euthanasia are by any sensible moral standard immoral.

Two, it was done on a large scale, mostly by democrats. (But enough Republicans were involved that there is no room for sanctimonious or pious ritual hand washing over it.)

She is either going to have to recognize that many famous liberal icons were infamously tied to objective evil, or call evil good. I think she will wind up doing the latter.

No, they are both perfectly legitimate targets for this 'debate'.

And I'll throw in Dr. Philip Singer, also an advisor the President Barack Obama on healthcare.

"Singer’s appointment was met with shock and dismay by those who were aware of his views. He is an outspoken advocate of infanticide and euthanasia. In a 1983 article, Singer negatively compared the value of a handicapped newborn with that of a pig:

If we compare a severely defective human infant with a nonhuman animal, a dog or a pig, for example, we will often find the nonhuman to have superior capacities, both actual and potential, for rationality, self-consciousness, communication, and anything else that can plausibly be considered morally significant. Only the fact that the defective infant is a member of the species Homo sapiens leads it to be treated differently from the dog or pig. Species alone, however, is not morally relevant.(37)

If disabled newborn infants were not regarded as having a right to life until, say, a week or a month after birth it would allow parents, in consultation with their doctors, to choose on the basis of far greater knowledge of the infant’s condition than is possible before birth….
[T]he main point is clear: killing a disabled infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person. Very often it is not wrong at all.(41)"

If you think this is despicable, you can thank Margaret Sanger and her beastly creation "Planned Parenthood", the progressive movement and other population control freaks.
