I would like to introduce myself. My name is Scott Sturm. I am the Democratic Candidate for U.S. Congress in Texas’ 21st District. I will be facing incumbent Republican Lamar Smith in the upcoming Midterm Elections.

I want to give the voters of District 21 a real choice for change come November 6th, 2018. I have a really good feeling about this campaign. I know if we all work together across the country for a change in Congress, we can make history this next election.

Since 2001 I have worked in EMS starting as an EMT and then as a Paramedic since 2003 working my way up to Critical Care and Flight Paramedic. I have dedicated these years to providing care for the sick and injured and now I realize it is time to put my dedication and hard work to helping fix our Government and put our country back on the right path.

I am running for Congress because I saw that, now more than ever, we need people of principle in power.

I am running for Congress because our system is rigged for corporations and the wealthy, but we can fight back. The time has come to tackle this inequality.

I will be a bold progressive fighter, someone who will not just represent you but will stand up for you and your values. If you elect me, you can be sure that I will stand up for working people, not the one percent.

We face a lot of challenges today not just in Texas but in America. People like Donald Trump are whipping up hate and fear across the country, resulting in a rise in anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim violence. As I have always believed so will I lead in providing a different vision because I know like you do that America’s biggest strength is our diversity.

The corporate and special interests have their voice in Congress, and they have too many members scared of their power. I’m ready to take them on. I’m ready to speak out for your values even when no-one else will.

The government we currently have is corrupt and broken. I think most Americans feel the way I do. We are fed up with Washington and we need to shake things up and give this country back to the people! I know if voters here can get to know me, and know they have a choice for the people, change will happen.

I’m not afraid of big dreams, of achieving things that others say are not possible. I’m not afraid of laying out a real vision that speaks truth to power and inspires people to join us. Even disbelievers and those who may not always agree see in me an honest and effective broker who’s willing to put aside partisan politics when there are people of good faith on both sides who want to work towards real change. But if it turns to playing games with people’s lives or grandstanding, I’m unafraid to challenge the status quo.

I will fight to win things that we all deserve, because I know that we are all in this together. Being an unknown quantity, against a strong incumbent in this conservative area, I know I am a minority but I am not afraid to tell people what I think. Still, I will need all the help I can get in my fight to be your Representative.

This is a “David vs. Goliath” campaign. Consider these facts:

Lamar Smith has been the Representative for District 21 since January 3rd, 1987.

He earned his B.A. from Yale University in 1969 and his J.D. from Southern Methodist University in 1975
He is the current Chairman of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology
He also serves on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Judiciary.
During election cycles, Smith’s campaign committee continually raises amounts over one million dollars.

I’ve got my work cut out for me! It’s going to be fun being the underdog!

Here are a few of my campaign priorities:

Protecting the 2nd Amendment while working to enact safe, sensible gun policy that will help reduce gun violence in this country

  • Helping Teachers provide a better education to this country’s children
  • Reducing student loan debt for private college and university graduates
  • Working to provide debt free public college and university education
  • National Health Care for Every American
  • Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and promoting new energy technologies
  • Protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
  • Protecting a Women’s Right to Choose
  • Protecting our environment and fighting climate change
  • Raising the Minimum Wage
  • Protecting our borders while working on a sensible solution to the over twelve million illegal immigrants in our country. We need to work on keeping our families together, not deporting them
  • Protecting Americans

We need a Congressman who will put the priorities of the people ahead of the Washington Insiders and party politics. We need someone who will protect Social Security and Medicare and preserve these vital services that keep our seniors out of poverty. We need a Congressman that will work to raise the minimum wage and create a more balanced economy that rewards workers, not CEO’s and Wall Street bankers. We need to protect unions and workers’ rights to come together and stand up for themselves. I am running to protect women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions and will stand with Planned Parenthood. We need a Congressman who will work to ensure that equal pay for equal work is the law of the land and that women are paid the same as men who work in the same job.

We need effective leaders who know both how to get things done as well as how to stand up for their constituents, rather than for corporate lobbyists.

We need movement builders who understand that our role as elected officials is not only to pass good policy or stop bad policy, but to be the bridge between government and the people, to remind people that we represent THEM, and to help inspire hope, trust, and a new generation of activism.

This campaign is not about electing me, it’s about electing “WE”—the “we” that works together for building the movement we need. We are going to need each and every one of you to have ownership in this campaign and this seat. So, I plan to build a campaign that is built on you—powered by the grassroots, and the energy of working people. We ARE the ones we’ve been waiting for.

In the end, the powerful have their voice—I humbly ask that I may be yours. I will be bold, I will be honest and I will demand justice. I will be your fighter in Congress for YOUR future, OUR future.

Please help me in my fight to give voters a real choice.

Sounds like another gas bag democrat to me.

Just what we need in Texas. Another Free Shit Socialist. Better to move to Vermont or another socialist state on the left coast.

Texas demographics are turning blue. Your obese orange clown can't change that.
It has nothing to do with President Trump. We, the people, will keep as many regressive dim gas bags out, just like we, the people, put President Trump in the white house. And, there is nothing lying regressive gas bag shills can do about it except cry like little girls on internet forums.

We've had Democratic control of the Federal govt. since 2006 right up to last March, and there are still too many in govt. positions now, sabotaging the new President like the traitors you all are; they did none of all that 'progressive' nonsense, and not only bailed out Wall Street but shoved even more money at it than Bush ever dreamed of handing his cronies. So, no, we've heard the BS before from faux 'progressives'; all you really want is foment violence and hate against white people, set up a Maoist dictatorship with yourselves in charge, and work hard to make deviancy, Islam, sociopathic mass killing of babies, gangsterism, and flooding the country with aliens the 'new normal'.

Keep your day job.

Don't know why all these Social Justice Warriors don't just pile into Mexico and reform it, since they seem so dedicated n stuff. they could show us all how wonderful their stuff is, which would make their stuff a certain win for them here. Instead, they all want to move to New Zealand or Canada, and not at all enthusiastic about 'Diversity N Stuff'.

They're counting on the illegal alien vote out of San Antonio, Houston to turn Texas blue or something. they have to be able to do some truly bizarre gerrymandering to do that, so don't anybody hold their breaths hoping the Texas Republicans and Democratic moderates do that for them; it ain't happening, not even in Ft Worth or Dallas County, either.

Ain't that easy for illegals to vote in Texas, it ain't like California. It's just my opinion, but they tend to lie low and stay out of the limelight as much as possible. Not many of 'em are going to vote IMHO, they don't want to to go anywhere near a gov't office.

Gov. Abbot wants to jail Texas sheriffs who don't obey the sanctuary law. He will cause Libs to lose a lot of votes in Travis County when they start shipping illegals out. Also in Harris and Bexar Counties.

In some places, sure. In others, it's apparently easy. A San Antonio newspaper's investigation showed a lot of illegals being called up for jury duty, and getting out of it by being illegal aliens. I posted the link a while back, I'll find it for you again. Some 13% of those with hispanic surnames called up were illegals.

You have to show your ID to vote in Texas.

Now you do, and only recently. And identity theft is rampant, so even that isn't foolproof.

Meh, the link to the original story at the SA news site is dead now, gets a 404 error, same with the links elsewhere, but here's a cite of it:
