If government intrusion was removed from the health care equation then it would become much cheaper so everyone can afford it. I'm not for taking a trillion dollars out of the economy in times of economic distress. Raising taxes right now is also a bad idea.

But for the most part..debt has to be addressed and common sense cuts to entitlements like "means testings" and common sense cuts to the military like closing foreign bases are both good rational ideas.

I'm not going to knock food stamp folks. Most just don't have a clue how to make a positive system work for them.

When we lived in Tennessee I became a super coupon queen and got food for 0.0000000 bucks on a regular basis.

One of our best friends was a pastor out of Murfreesboro and I'd go around giving coupon classes and people actually started to get ahead.

But the deal is most folks just don't know how to work a system legally with positive results. Sad.

The people building those cars purchase good and services from small businesses.

LOL- a lot of companies purchase "cars" in bulk. Not only the government. Virtually every company that have sales teams purchase cars for their employee's- every two years- most government cars remain in their fleet for many years. This is your argument for food stamps stimulating the economy? Think Kraft and a global market. Kraft is owned by Nestle' the largest candy company in the world. They buy cars...lots and lots of cars and trucks for their sales and delivery employees- now multiply that by the thousands of private sector companies and government purchasing is a mere drop in the bucket.

Many auto dealers and businesses in general either refuse or hate doing business with the Government because they are a notorious slow pay to say the least.

The length that some will go to argue for government funded welfare being "good for our economy" is mind boggling.

Taking care of the truly needy is a worthy endeavor- but there are smarter ways to do it and it should not be done to stimulate our economy- which, in anything, but the very short term, is a drain not a plug or spigot for economic growth.
