According to the IMF this country began this century producing 32% of the world's gross domestic product. This country finished the decade producing 24%. No other nation in history, except the Soviet Union, has taken such a FALL in one decade.

"Between one-fourth and one-third of all US Manufacturing jobs have disappeared in ten years...(o)ur future is being outsourced--to China."

"Where the economy was at full employment in 2000, 10% of the labor force is out of work today and another 7% is underemployed or has given up looking for work."

"While the median income of American families was stagnant, the national debt doubled."

"...the USA is almost as dependent on foreign nations today for manufactured goods, and the loans to pay for them, as we were in the early days of the republic."

"What the British were to us then, China is today."

See: "America's Decade of Decline" by Pat Buchanan @TAC 12/28/09

If your first reflex is to blame the Republicans OR Democrats, I'd like to suggest you are being played by parasites who earned, on average, $3million/year in 1970 and currently rake in about $23million/year.

Huey Long saw it clearly long ago: The American government is like a restaurant that offers only one dish. You got Republican waiters lining one wall, and Democrat waiters along the opposite wall.

But no matter which party brings your order "...all the grub comes from Wall Street's kitchen."

That's the same Wall Street that is currently finishing the greatest transfer of private debt into public debt in history.

Next November 2nd, choosing between Republican OR Democrat is a choice between stepping on a IED in Helmond or waking up homeless on the continent your forefathers conquered.

Vote AGAINST every (congressional) incumbent appearing on your ballot.

Select as many replacements as possible who are neither Republican nor Democrat.

FLUSH the DC TOILET in 2010!
Roll back the Great American FALL.

Good luck with that. Democrats will still have the majority next year at this time.

Nothing you are advocating will change any of this

Voting Republican or Democrat guarantees nothing changes(for the better)

If there is an Axis of Greed at work in this country today consisting of Wall Street, the Pentagon, and the US Congress, its weakest link rotates into range every two years.

What if: One year from today 100 new House members and an even dozen virgin(?) Senators are waiting in the congressional wings?

And 75%-90% are neither Republican nor Democrat?

Change the campiagn finance laws.

But in fact the Supreme court just changed them BACK to something even worse than they've been for the last thirty years by calling into question the post watergate reforms,.

Wall street's lock on our government is therefore, stronger than ever.

Right now Wall Street transcends congress and the Supremes. I don't know how many Americans believe campaign donations qualify as "free" speech but I'm convinced Republicans and Democrats will turn on their mothers before taking on Wall Street.

What are the Democrats and Republicans doing that is driving jobs overseas? If there is nothing in their immediate control, what will voting them out of office accomplish?

Talk specific policies you want executed

Flush the partisans, both dems and repubs and things will get better.
Continue to vote in the same tired "two' parties of the same policies and we will continue to get out of touch dishonest so-called leaders.
dems and repubs are basically the same, not enough difference to make a difference.
The partisan arguments are intentionall propagated by both parties in order to keep the people occupied and hide the real games they are playing. Putting independents or third party candidates in place will help change this game of greed and corruption.
Too many people support term limits or campaign reform EXCEPT for their representive or sentator.
Get over it, your congress idiot is no better than the rest.
Vote against all incumbents, vote third party, Break the "two party monarchy!

I agree with you completely.

Except for the part about voting indy. It won't change anything.

There's no way to go back in time. There's no way to bring back manufacturing jobs. Independants (not Rs or Ds) are just as corrupt as Rs and Ds.

When it comes down to it, the status quo is better than either radical end of the spectrum. And more often than not, the status quo wins.

That's the attitude our so-called leaders want because it propagates an attitude of acceptance for mediocracy.
The America I know will not accept this for very long.
Mediocracy is only a short step to socialism, open attempts at socialism may fly in the cities of the east, but will be met with open resistance here in the open areas of the west.

Your rhetoric has no basis in reality. By all means, vote out all the incumbents in Nov.

But don't expect everyone else to do so - and don't expect anything to change.

Supporting "free" trade agreements like NAFTA and rolling back regulations on Wall Street like the repeal of Glass-Steagall are two principal ways Republicans and Democrats have been driving jobs overseas.

Congress is supposed to control the government's purse strings and declare war. With 20% of the local economy in many congressional districts dependent upon "defense" spending, most Republicans and Democrats can't afford to say no to war.

Those in congress who aren't receiving corporate welfare from Boeing are on the dole from Wall Street.

The corruption(evil?) in DC is woven into the basic fabric of both major parties and blinds them to the consequences of their actions.

And I don't think most Americans can afford another decade like the one we've just endured.

Jobs are going overseas (from many countries) because the companies that provide the jobs can do so. The irony is that some countries that received the benefits of such movement have now found themselves losing those jobs as companies find cheaper places to manufacture. It's got nothing to do with domestic politics, it's simply globalisation of the world economy.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I suspected that you didn't have anything but wild speculations

Slackjawed:

Lately I've noticed those on the left and right have different definitions of "socialism."

For decades I used the word as a workers paradise where workers controlled the means of production and were compensated fairly for their labor.

I was always confused when the right would refer to Rockefeller and Armand Hammer as socialists. Until I learned how Hammer and other capitalists helped Lenin come to power in 1918.

What I saw as a worker's paradise the right saw as a centralized one world government.

My bad...

Globalization is driven by things like tax policy for corporations who outsource jobs. One of the latest examples is Obama's rescue of Detroit automakers. That deal is structured in such a way that the owners receive maximum benefit by shuttering plants in this country and moving operations to Mexico or China.

Domestic labor suffers and Wall Street profits because Republicans and Democrats receive more campaign money from investment bankers than from unions.
