Florida Sheriff’s Office Will not Escort Miami Dolphins Until They Stand for Anthem

Ok, now we are really getting into First Amendment territory. The Sheriff's Dept, a government entity, is stating they will no longer give escort service to the Dolphins because they don't stand for the Anthem. Definitely a violation of the players' First Amendment rights. They should be contacting the ACLU over this, IMO.

I would re-write every players contract. New Terms of Employment require you stand for the National Anthem. If not, discipline is warranted

“I respect their right to have freedom of speech. However, in certain organizations and certain jobs you give up that right of your freedom of speech temporary while you serve that job or while you play in an NFL game.”

the government is interfering in the free enterprise of NFL ownership...

NFL owners have defended their players, so where does the government get off...??
What I can’t figure out is where the sheriff’s office gets off telling Americans they lose their rights if they play football??

That is really bizarre. :cuckoo:

Why do you think the Dolphins players have a "right" to escort service from the Sheriff's Department? Is that something you get? It's not something I get! Yet there they are "protesting" the way that police treat them? (eye roll)

True..... And why would these ingrate players want police to help them?

Maybe these players should protest a worthy cause like all the black folk being murdered in Chicago by their own?

Make a difference

No need for that. Teams, or the NFL, could discipline players now, if they wanted to. They choose not to. So adding such a clause is not likely to happen.

It would make for an interesting Constitutional argument.

The police at games are off-duty volunteers. They just ain't volunteering.
They weren’t volunteering. They were getting paid for that job. The Dolphins will have to find someone else.

[edit: individual officers volunteer for the assignment but they are paid for their services]

Well if last nights game where both teams stood, no kneelers, then you're right. The message has been sent and receieved

Sorry no violation at all
So...the government can withdraw protection if your speech is not to their liking?

“I respect their right to have freedom of speech. However, in certain organizations and certain jobs you give up that right of your freedom of speech temporary while you serve that job or while you play in an NFL game.”
That covers the NFL...but now we are talking the Sheriff's Dept...a government entity...withdrawing protection because they don't like the players' free speech. As many have pointed out...the First Amendment is about protection from the government....well, the Sheriff IS the government.

Like Berkley PD not protecting conservative speakers.
Didn't hear you whining 1st Amendment then.

You missed the difference between protection FROM and protection BY.

Why do ANY athletes get police escort?? These are just useless entertainers.

Florida Sheriff’s Office Will not Escort Miami Dolphins Until They Stand for National Anthem

sep 28 2017 The Miami Dolphins are also part of the unpatriotic movement started by Colin Kaepernick that involves refusing to stand at attention for the national anthem. However, they are all starting to feel the consequences of their actions, with the Florida sheriffs office announcing that they will not be escorting the Dolphins to their games

unless they stop with the disrespectful behavior. The local Miami police union supported the decision of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and will not be doing any escorting either, reports The Sports Hall.

President of the International Union of Police Associations, Jeffrey Bell said,

“I respect their right to have freedom of speech. However, in certain organizations and certain jobs you give up that right of your freedom of speech temporary while you serve that job or while you play in an NFL game.”
Oh look... turns out you’re just another idiot who falls for fake news.

FACT CHECK: Florida Sheriff’s Office Will Not Escort Miami Dolphins Until They Stand For National Anthem?

Only if any of those players kneeled before but didn’t last night. Any of them do that?

Well, they won't stand for the anthem because of their perceived police brutality from cops so I do not see why they would even seek an escort from those bastard cops! Dew Ewe?

Better yet. These stinking prima donnas have enough money to move to a country where they aren't so freaking oppressed.

NFL players, put your money where your big mouth is...LEAVE.

Of course the team pays them but they are still off duty and are volunteering.

, has there ever been a player put in jeopardy going to the field?
Bump and Grind

There will be. Patriots can't stand any more of this bratty behavior by frill athletes. Jocks are there to entertain us; why should we respect the opinions of performing clowns? This attitude from low-class lowlife should be compared to topless dancers protesting to their strip-bar customers because a woman wasn't elected President.

So...the government can withdraw protection if your speech is not to their liking?

These clowns have no more "right" to police protection than your or I. In fact they have less right since they're rich and can buy some private cops.

These overpaid america-haters have no right to police protection. THINK.

if any of this is true....it definitely is against their first amendment rights if the government is using their power to shut them up...

Do they need the police? No, they can pay for hired thugs. Shows this lot of police would rather live in a police state.
