well, according to Circe and some other fearful folks the guns are to blame even though guns are not the number one tool used in violent deaths in this country. They aren't thinking about how to stop the violence because there is no answer to that. You can't control criminals and you can't predict when a mentally ill person is going to go "over the edge" so lets do something - even if it attacks the constitutionally protected rights of the entire nation. We can give up just ONE kind of gun and limit the number of rounds that any gun can carry - that's not so bad... is it?
I mean it's no different than saying we can give up ONE religion or just One kind of book or maybe give up our right to be free from searches in one area of a city. It isn't such a big deal.
The Christians have a propensity for violence so we could do away with just Christianity, we won't ban religion and you still have others to choose from - shouldn't that be enough?
So let's do it! Let's give up just part of each right listed in the Bill of rights in the name of the children, for the safety of us all. That way we can all sleep better at night knowing that everything will be better tomorrow, and if it isn't then we can always take just one more LITTLE part away until we are safe.
That is what people like Circe are advocating. They want to feel safe and to feel safe they need us all to give up a part of our rights. HOGWASH! We are safer if we are free from the shackles of others. Slaves didn't have rights - none at all - and were they safe? Our rights guarantee our safety.
If you want the world free of violence then prosecute the violent offenders instead of letting them plea-bargain down to a lesser crime. If they commit a crime of violence prosecute them for it - if they use a gun add that charge to the prosecution. Lock them up and get rid of the violence. Taking guns out of the hands of those who have never committed a crime only serves to make more victims. It makes us all victims. Two million times a year citizens use guns to stop crime - two million times! Those people deserve medals not the loss of their ability to choose which guns they want for protection.
