When i was in school, it was the 70's.
The agitators of my day were very suspicious of any initiative by government because the economy was in the pooper, we were engaged in a very unpopular war and the rest of the world seemed to be overtaking us in all areas. We were encouraged to fight the Central Government because it was trying to take away our individual liberties, our rights and our dreams.
We were encouraged to cling to our freedoms even at the expense of our comfort and security.
Today, the economy is in the pooper, we are engaged in a very unpopular war and the rest of the world seems to be overtaking us in all areas. Today's solution? Abandon individual liberty, forfeit your rights to the central government authority and submit any dream you may have once had to the whim of the governing authority.
We are encouraged to sacrifice our liberty for our comfort and security.
