Fiscal Cliff and Sequestration? I'm Confused

But taxes will need to be increased, it’s naïve to believe otherwise; as spending cuts alone will not make a significant impact on the deficit.

Someone has suggested actual cuts? I'm not talking about a slight decrease in the planned increased rate of spending (base line budgeting), but actual CUTS.

In other words, how can you say that spending cuts alone will not make an impact when nobody is seriously considering any actual cuts?

And, when you say taxes will need to be increased, do you mean tax rates or revenue? If it's tax rates, how do you know such action won't harm the economy and result in less revenue (ala the Laffer Curve)? If you're suggesting we need more tax revenue, how do you plan to accomplish that?

Shut the fuck up, dumbass. The DoD is taking the brunt of the cuts while Obamacare and other handouts are skating by....

The Sequestration idea was from a Obamination supporter in the White House and the GOP fell for it.

The ultimate goal of Sequestration is to gut the military, but have the GOP's fingerprints on it too.

Obamination got the GOP to fall for Sequestration with promises of working together before the DoD cuts went into affect, but now he is somehow deaf when they want a deal......
The cuts are equally split between domestic and Pentagon spending....You keyboard kommandos are as big of snivelers as the poverty pimps.

If the DoD can't squeeze $50 billion of waste, duplication and money pits like the Osprey out of their nearly $750 bil honey pot, then they're not even trying.

Everyone seems focused on the bush tax cuts to stop us from going over the Fiscal Cliff. If the President gets his way how does this keep us from the Cliff? Sequestration was proposed by the Super Committee when they couldn't come up with a balanced budget. The higher Taxes on the top wage makers will generate about 500billion. That doesn't make a balanced budget, we currently spend about 1.2trillion more than we take in. If the President get's the higher rates on some won't Sequestration still happen? Don't we need 1.2T every year to keep it from happening?

It's their plan, let 'em own it. Stand firm on no tax rates increases, let the "cuts" happen (really just a slight decrease in the planned increased rate of spending), increase regulations, give out more entitlements, meddle with more markets and print as much money as necessary and let the Keynesian/Socialist dream of equality produce the excellent results we've been promised. The central planners know what's best for all of us. :eusa_eh:

By "standing firm on no tax rates increases" do you mean let the "Bush tax cuts" expire? Wouldn't the GOP get blamed for this general tax increase? A better way would be to demand that the Dems come up with their own plan and then let it pass. Wouldn't this make it harder to blame the GOP for the results?

Good luck with that. The Dems won't even pass a budget, let alone proper tax reform.

The GOP will get blamed for anything and everything bad that happens no matter what. Let's just accept that as the reality.

If the Dems come up with their own plan, it will include raising taxes on the rich only. So, although we already have the most progressive tax structure in the world, it would become even more so. Why vote for that? Besides, the GOP can't "let it pass", they must approve it. If the GOP says they're happy to vote for anything that doesn't raise tax rates (but may include eliminating loopholes), I think that's the best they can do.

The Dems are free to extend the current rates and the GOP will go along with that. It's the President's plan to increase tax rates and allow these "cuts" to happen. Let him own it.

Raising taxes on the Rich is working out really well in France these days....not.

Raising taxes on the Rich is working out really well in France these days....not.

We'll know for sure in 2013 if raising tax rates on the rich (75%) has resulted in more or less revenue to the government.

Either way, America still has the most progressive tax structure in the world. That is, our rich pay a bigger portion of the overall revenue than any other nation...but that's just not good enough for the takers.

Now day's a retired married couple making $50,000 taking the standard deduction will pay $0 taxes. If every couple making that much had to pay as little as $1,000 a year we could raise trillions. Increase the rate for the top 1% but also make everyone pay something. Currently about 50% pay nothing, that should be 10% instead of 50%.

Damn,

We either cut entailments or we fail as a nation within the next decade. It isn't like the rats give a fuck.

The spending cuts are a 50-50 split...None of the pretty and disingenuous 3-color chats and graphs from the hacks at Heritage, which (not surprisingly) pick percentages when it's convenient for them, can change that.

Fact remains that the Pentagon cuts are way below 10%...If you claim that you can't wring that out of the budget, you're as big a cryass as the lolberals who squeal like stuck pigs at the prospect of ending handouts to NPR/PBS/CPB.

Uh, if there are 4 guys sitting at a bar and you claim the bar tab is split "50/50" by making 1 guy pay $50 of the $100 bill and the other 3 guys split the remaining $50.....someone is getting screwed.....basic math.

Last time I checked, entitlement spending isn't part of the US Constitiution like military spending. If you losertarians go along with the liberals in gutting the DoD so that they can protect the bigger problem in entitlement spending, then you are just as dirty as them.

Oh, these DoD cuts are in addition to about $500B cuts from the DoD budget LAST YEAR.

That comes close to $1T in cuts.....so let's see other pograms that have lost $1T in the last 2 years.

Obamacare is going to add about $2T to the federal budget......hmmmmm, it looks like Obamination is shifting DoD money to his Obamacare.

Absolutely. As long as the government controls the majority of the media and the majority of our institutes of education. the blame will fall where the government dictates it to fall.

Personally I would prefer to allow the whole thing to go ahead as passed, let America get a taste of the consequences of allowing clueless ideologues to control the debate.

You mean clueless ideologues like you?

Even that graph shows non-defense spending cuts at 42.7% which is more then the defense cuts.

In any case..I say go over the cliff.

It would be great for the country.

The sequester already got passed...It was one of them "bipartisan" efforts that all you clueless progressive/socialist wanker ideologues whine about wanting.

Oh really?

Speaker Boehner: “I Got 98% of What I Wanted” (Video) | The Gateway Pundit

Since when did Boehner become a clueless progressive/socialist wanker?

I always thought he was a cluess reactionary/fascist wanker.

The free shit must be cut
and I'd be willing to discuss a small tax on the rich

Otherwise let's go over the cliff!

The regime insists the cuts that auto begin on Jan 1 are part f the reason for the free fall over the cliff.
I don't see it that way. Anytime government is forced to cut or by choicecuts non essential spending, it is a good thing.

He's been a neocon douchebag since day one...Which makes him the stealth socialist/progressive wanker that he in fact is.
