My friends gave me this book last week and I just finished it today. It is about a young, idealistic lawyer running for the Senate against a two-time heavily-favored incumbent.
There are contemporary political issues in the book, but the author does not reference "Republican" or "Democrat" throughout the novel. And though Tea Party isn't used, either, the main character runs his campaign on responsible government spending. Sound familiar?
It was a good book. A lot of American themes: the loss of newspapers (old media vs. new), small towns, public libraries, etc. Even a little baseball, which I personally loved. It touched on themes of loss, change, and where we're headed as a country. It is called, perhaps appropriately, The Nostalgist. Could this be the first Tea Party novel?
