New Census estimates show minorities added more than 2 percent in 2009 to 107.2 million people, boosted by a surge in Hispanic births and more people who described themselves as multiracial. During this time, the white population remained flat, making up roughly 199.9 million, or 65 percent, of the country.

Currently four states — Hawaii, New Mexico, California and Texas — as well as the District of Columbia have minority populations that exceeded 50 percent. About 311 of the 3,143 counties — one in 10 — have minority populations of 50 percent or greater. That’s up from more than 250 counties in 2000.

Based on current rates, data from the 2010 census could show a new “tipping point” in which babies born to minorities outnumber babies born to whites.

About 1 in 4 counties now have more minority children than white children or are nearing that point.

“Fertility is playing a critical role in reshaping the racial and ethnic structure of the country,” said Kenneth Johnson, a sociology professor at the University of New Hampshire.

I find the collective xenophobia about ethnic groups to be a little strange. It's nothing new in this country (watch gangs of New York) and just keeps getting replayed over and over.

I would say its a combo of these things:
(1) Unchecked and liberal protected illegal immigration. The illegals are tossing in American citizens as anchor babies.
(2) Legal immigration is coming from mostly Latino countries. Most countries including Mexico take in immigrants who are upper echelons of their country, scientist, engineers or doctors, yet we are welcoming in lower echelon people from 3rd world countries.
(3) White people have less kids because in the Middle Class kids are expensive. I have 3 kids, between diapers, food, clothes, entertainment, preschool, college savings, shelter and activities, I can barely make in on mine and my wife's $100K+ combined salaries annual. Face it children, however very rewarding, are expensive. Look at your friends that always seem to have a lot of money and go on long expensive trips, they are usually single or couples without children.

(4) HOWEVER, American Liberals have created a system that caters to lower class people having babies (where the majority of the Latinos fall into). First, the more children they have, the better chance and more dollars in welfare they can get. Food stamps covers the food expense. They don't pay any taxes. They will get medicaid and free emergency room visits. Then they get section 8 housing, not to mention free day care aka school. American liberals have created a systems that rewards and gives enormous incentive to people who can't afford to have children to have children.

(5) The Sanctuary City Mayors in CA, AZ, NM, TX and Chicago create all the incentive to come to America and have as a litter of babies. Heck the mayor of LA even publicly states CA is part of Mexico and will be it again.

You don't care because you don't see the negative implications of this. Read about how the Blacks are being forced out of Dallas, because those schools have to cater to the lare influx of Latinos who no speaka any ingles. In many cases in Dallas, they aren't even teaching them English, but are receiving entirely Spanish classes for every class. The Blacks are getting pushed out.

And to you, you are seeing a racial thing. But there is a huge culture change happening. The Latinos are fine when they come here an assimilate in the American way of life. Too many aren't doing that, they come from failed Latino Nations (Besides, Chile or Brazil none can be considered on the up and up) refuse to learn the language, have major animosity towards Whites and Blacks and have socialist/Big Government thinking.

On a personal note my Barber is American if Mexican descendant. She is 2nd generation and still has the accent. She told me she has to move to get into a new school district, because too many Mexicans are coming into the current one. I found it odd, because she is well Mexicans. Her response, "Too many Mexicans students bring down the education all the other students get and bring a gang culture to the school system."

Call me a racist all you want, but the Latinos having babies by the dozens aren't the ones that assimilate into the American culture and embrace being Americans. That is what I have a problem with!

This thread is about race and ethnicity. So that was a fail at playing the "reverse-racism card". The thread is about the fact that minorities are having more offspring than whites and you automatically correlated that with government handouts.

It's nothing to do with "fertility".

It's all about "education".

Educated people "plan".

They use "birth control".

They understand there is more to babies than just "having them". You have to "raise" them.

The highest birth rate among "white" teens (and STD's) are the Christian right that teaches failed policy of "abstinence" only.

Studies have shown that "Abstinence Plus" works best. But the right, blinded by their failed ideology, sees things with a tunnel vision that hurts their own children and their children's future. But hey, it's "Gawdly".

Everywhere there is "Abstinence only", there is also the highest dropout rate.

As minorities, any minority becomes educated, their "fertility" rate drops.

Take it to another thread rdean. The minorities having babies don't come from the Bible belt. We have a comprehensive sex ed program in our district. And we currently have over 20 pregnant teens. And yes - most of them are minorities.

The broad brush is appropriate here because we are talking about the Census. If the information was not important or relevant, the question need not be asked.

It is not just about government handouts. It's about culture and education and crime and neglected children, etc. It should not be a partisan issue; but apparently it is.

And Ghook - we have had an influx of Hispanics from another district (both PR and Mexican) and they have stated the same thing as your barber. They want a better school district because of all the Mexicans in their old school. Weird.
