I have always wondered how liberals could resolve their reflexive defense of the Muslim world and women's rights. It seems we might just find out because of the newest Sex and the City movie. I might just go to see how people react to seeing the truth.

Samantha is approached by an Arab sheik to devise a PR campaign for his business enterprises, and he offers to fly her and her three gal pals on an all-expenses-paid luxury vacation to Abu Dhabi. (These scenes were filmed in Morocco.) Even in an escapist fantasy, the spectacle of women sinking into this billionaire's paradise at a time of widespread economic hardship initially seems creepy and off-putting. Soon, however, their Arab sojourn takes unexpected turns. First of all, Carrie encounters her old flame, Aidan (John Corbett), at the spice market, but even more importantly, she and her friends run up against the puritanical and misogynistic culture of the Middle East. The rather scathing portrayal of Muslim society no doubt will stir controversy, especially in a frothy summer entertainment, but there's something bracing about the film's saucy political incorrectness. Or is it politically correct? "SATC 2" is at once proudly feminist and blatantly anti-Muslim, which means that it might confound liberal viewers.

Another conservative imagining. If it weren't for "liberals", women in this country wouldn't have rights, in fact, neither would blacks or gays.

Then there was this incredible LACK of criticism about Bush and the Republicans working with Iraq to establish a hard right Islamic theocratic government that put women back into burk-as and kills the gays (although, I suspect not a lot of Republicans feel terribly bad about either).

From the Republican supported Iraqi constitution:

Article 2:
First: Islam is the official religion of the State and it is a fundamental source of legislation:
A. No law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established.

How can Republicans pretend their political party didn't do this awful thing? How is it possible? They can convince themselves about anything. What a disgrace.

The United States is not nor has ever been in a position to demand a sovereign country deny its religious roots. No matter how we personally feel about the subject, arabs will have their religious state. WE the USA would be foolish to insist otherwise.

The issue is not so much an Islamic state, but how democratic and liberal that islamic state will be. Jordan is a good example of an arab state moving farther away from the oppressive fundamentalism. Jordan is not perfect especially in terms of woman's rights, but they ARE the best of the rest.

As to the movie, I am sure they will have the girls in very pretty see though veils at some point, a very Hollywood idea, instead of the all covering black true burka. I imagine the SATC girls coming across some woman in a burka and dressing her up. I imagin the woman's husband coming home, being outraged that his wife is not covered up, and then coming around because he sees his wife is so beautiful.

What exactly am I imagining? The fact you think I am some sort of conservative Republican just because you want to disagree with me that liberals are betraying feminism. Or the fact if Bush had tried to force Iraq to keep Islam out of their constitution the liberals would have been up in arms about him interfering in a sovereign nation and of being biased against Islam. Tell me exactly what it is I am imagining when I point out that a movie that celebrates feminism has to be anti Muslim.

Anything that has a woman dressed in anything other then a burka is anti islam. Anything that has a woman who thinks and worse speaks for herself is anti islam. Anything that suggests sex is anti Islam. Anything that has woman unaccompanied my a male member of the family is anti islam.

So Sex and the City along with its girls is quite the islamic fatwa in the making.

Poor Miss America. She could be stoned to death.

 I've never met a liberal that approves or condones the treatment of women by many Muslim cultures. In fact, more than likely "conservatives" like Pubic would be the ones to condone it.

I've never watched Sex and the City...do they truly talk about "feminism" on a regular basis?

You think SEX IN THE CITY = the LEFT?!?!

Those rich, pampered, materialistic, egocentric ladies are lefties?

My God!

You don't have clue who the left is, what it believes, or what it values are, do you?

Maybe he thinks they are "left" since 3 out of 4 of them are happily married with families.

First lesson.
Those were not my words, they were the words of a movie critic.

Second lesson.
I know more about the Left than you think. Since you are the one who brought up the Left you have actually served to verify them.

Third lesson. Liberals who believe that political correctness is of more value than then the truth do abandon feminism.

Because there is nothing socialist about them.

You're fucking insane. Those aren't "imaginings", they are delusions.

Iraq had a secular government when we invaded. Keeping religion out of the constitution isn't "denying" religion. We have separation, yet, everyone is FREE to practice celebrating the MOON GOD if they want.

That has to be a picture of you. You can't be any more than 18 or 19.
