We were at a wedding last weekend and they did that, 'will all married couples come to the dance floor,' and then eliminated couples in 5 year increments. Damn, it was strange, we were the last couple standing. So without sounding like a chauvinist, women's sexual desire is somewhat different. It is more cyclical and more romantic than men's non stop visually induced desire. But women's desire only differs in degree not kind. imho

So let’s start from the beginning.

Shogun’s position (and jillian’s) regarding the female orgasm is that it is an adaptation. Adaptation is a trait that adds an reproductive advantage to a given species or population, that is, it makes them have more offspring.

more orgasms = more sex = more children

But if female orgasm had the reproduction function decribed above, women who, in our evolutionary past, had more orgasms would be more successful at passing on more of their genes. So we would see, over time, a gradual increase in the number of orgasmic women and a decrease in the rates of non orgasmic ones.

In other words, female orgasm would be naturally selected as an adaptation, a beneficial trait that would increase women’s reproductive rates just like male orgasm was strongly selected, and by now, the vast majority of women would be as orgasmic as men.

If Shogun and jillian really believe that female orgasm has a biological function, if they really believe that more orgasms = more babies, then, in our evolutionary path, those women with orgasm would reproduce more, and, over many generations, the population would consist of more and more women who were consistently orgasmic, and women who did not have orgasm – and women who rarely did -- would become extinct (exactly what happened to men).

But the reality check on female orgasm crushes Shogun’s and jillian’s phantasies mercilessly.

Study after study in the last 80 years of research on female sexuality reveals the heartbreaking news that 80% of all women never or only haphazardly reaches orgasm through intercourse.

If more orgasms = more babies were true, the percentage of fully orgasmic women would be 99% or more, just like men, instead of 20%.

If you want to have an idea of the effect of these researches on the idea that female orgasm has a reproductive purpose just take a look at a picture of Hiroshima after the bombing : )

Not only a minority of women are fully orgasmic, but also there isn’t a scrap of evidence that these women are more fertile or are more likely to conceive.

I’m not sure what he’s referring to.

If he’s referring to ejaculation without any pleasurable sensation, this is a condition so extremely rare it can be classified as an "exotic sexual dysfunction".

If he’s talking about the pre ejaculation liquid, this is one of the urban legends you find all over the net. Most studies indicate that the liquid that oozes out of a man’s penis before ejaculation don’t carry enough sperm to cause pregnancy. The issue is not completely settled (more studies are needed) but it’s almost certain it cannot impregnate a woman.

Without internal orgasm/ejaculation men have a 1% (or less) chance of making a woman pregnant.

Without orgasm women have a 100% chance of getting pregnant (compared to an orgasmic woman).

Once again, the numbers speak for themselves.

So let’s consider these two points:

1) Fully non orgasmic women and women who are only haphazardly orgasmic (80%) were not taken out of the human gene pool.

2) The two extremes of the female orgasm spectrum, fully orgasmic woman (20%) and fully non orgasmic woman (20%), have exactly the same reproductive success.

If you consider these two points in a dispassionate manner, then it stands to reason that there is no causal correlation between female orgasm and mothering (as opposed to the extremely strong correlation between male orgasm and fathering).

Sexual pleasure doesn’t make women have more children (today or 1 million years ago).

Female orgasm must be understood separately from reproductive function, because it simply never had any impact on “the production of babies”.

Let’s talk about the female penis, aka, clitoris.

Take a look at your chest and you will see something very similar to the clitoris and the female orgasm.

It’s called male nipples.

They don’t have any reproductive function in males (although they have erogenous sensibility analogous to female’s nipples) and the only reason we have them is because we share the first two months of uterine development with women.

The biological need to feed small children is so strongly selected that we, males, end up with innoperative versions of them.

Men have vestigial nipples because women need functional nipples to feed the young and women have vestigial penises and orgasms because men need functional ejaculatory penises and orgasms to reproduce.
