NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today more than $28 million in disaster assistance has been approved to help with recovery efforts just one week after a federal major disaster declaration was requested for severe storms and flooding that struck Tennessee.

Sounds like socialism in the heart of Tea Bagger country to me....:eusa_whistle:

Nope. That is not socialism. That is government doing what they are supposed to do with our tax dollars. Defend and PROTECT.

You see, us "right wing nuts" know how to discerne between what the government should be doing with our tax dollars and what they should not be doing with our tax dollars.

I thought only black New Orleanians needed federal help in disasters.

Where does it state in the Constitution that the Federal Government is supposed to pay for clean up after a flood?

Where does it say the federal government is supposed to pay for anything?

Whatever happened to states' rights and personal responsibility and less Federal Gubmint? Isn't that part of the Tea Bagger platfrom?

Your inability to understand the difference between "defending and protecting" and controlling is not my problem.

I know, I know. It is not your problem either.

Sorry VaYank. I am not going to get into that petty back and forth with you. It is not my style and I believe it is not yours.

You know the difference and if you dont want to admit it, then dont.

Of course I do, Jarhead. I am simply using the exact argument that right wingers and Tea Baggers used to fight against Healthcare reform. Why can they use it for one thing and not another?

Becuase one is universal and the other is not.

Everyone may need help due to natural or man made disasters.

Only a small portion of Americans need healthcare and even that is up for discussion.

$28M is hardly a drop in the bucket given the multi billion dollar damage. But nobody is getting evacuated
And gov't created the problem in the first place by offering flood insurance so private companies do not.

Come on.. you are really not this stupid. I've read many of your posts and while you're no mental giant you're usually a step or two above Truthmatters. FEMA provides LOANS to those affected by disaster. How exactly do you equate the federal government LOANING taxpayer money that they took from the states BACK to the states with requiring individuals to buy insurance?

So, can you tell us what you think the problem with the FEMA response was for Louisiana?

So, you were FOR our government LOANING money to AIG? GM? BOA? After all, they will pay it back, right? Sounds like socialism to me.

Isn't it 1.5 billion? That's "multi" billion?

Actually no one knows yet what the damage is. Damage to Opryland alone and the surround area might be that much.

I sure hope they had insurance....because there is NOTHING in our Constitution that states the Federal Government should help to pay for the damages.

Insurance won't cover most of it because they weren't in a flood zone. And you can only get government insurance for floods if you are in a flood zone. Otherwise you can't get insurance.
And it's in the commerce clause. Of course.

The commerce clause states that our Federal Government has to help pay for damages from a flood?
