Feds order Florida to halt ongoing push to remove ineligible voters from rolls

Sure a lot of people could be purged but hey, they GOP doesnt care. Let's add more hurdles to voting. And if people cant jump those hurdles, answer their mail etc their citizenship means diddly
States have thier OWN RULES in order to be able to cast a BALLOT.

Florida is doing due dilligence ensuring we don't have another Bush v. Gore circa 2000.

Imagine a government DOING what they are PAID to do?

The HORROR.

Don't let that get in the way of your partisanship.

IDIOT.

Federal authorities are demanding that Florida halt its push to remove ineligible voters from the voter rolls.
In a move that comes just months before the state could play a pivotal role in the 2012 presidential election, the U.S. Department of Justice contends that the state is violating federal law in its effort to identify and remove ineligible voters.
The state's effort has already come under fire from local election supervisors who belong to both political parties, as well as Democratic members of Congress and voting rights groups.

Now can somone tell me why the Feds want ineligible voters left on the rolls?

They don't want eligible voters taken off the roles. A large percent of those to be removed have responded that they are in fact citizens eligible to vote.

Willow know that. They ALL know that. Just like they know there is no voter fraud (except by ninny James O'Keefe and he was caught in the act).

The rw's all know that the real point is to stop as many DEM voters as they can ... Just in case BUYING the presidency doesn't quite make it.

We need to face facts - we will never again see an honest election in this country. The anti-American GObP/pubs/bags have seen to that and the rw's love it.

Are we surprised that Repubicans support a policy that results in the exclusion of eligible voters?

By right wing logic we can deny the vote to 1000 people in order to keep 1 person from voting illegally.

If Florida had not discriminated in the past they would not have to abide by the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which restricted some states right to determine how to set voting standards in their states without Federal approval.

But since they are under Federal law they must abide by the DOJ.

From what I have read the objection of the DOJ is the method of the process. The possibility some citizens will be denied their right to vote in this process is very real. If someone moved and did not fill out a change of address card the post office will not forward letters. Therefore they would be purged.

They should be purged! It's their obligation to fill out a change of address so they can vote in the correct precinct.

You know that this happened to Ann Coulter a few years ago. She was registered to vote in one county. Moved to another, then because there wasn't time to reregister returned to her old precinct to vote. Democrats learned that she voted at a poll located not where she lived and tried to get her prosecuted for voter fraud.

Now democrats have to abide by their own rules! Po babies.

Prove it, please.

- 1638 people in Miami-Dade County were flagged by the state as “non-citizens” and sent letters informing them that they were ineligible to vote.

- Of that group, 359 people have subsquently provided the county with proof of citizenship.

- Another 26 people were identified as U.S. citizens directly by the county.

- The bulk of the remaining 1200 people have simply not responded yet to a letter sent to them by the Supervisor of Elections.

So 1200 ineligable voters were taken off the rolls and no harm was done to those who were eligable.

If you notify ineligible voters, doesn't that give them a chance to correct the situation and vote?

It seems Holder either wants illegal voters or an opportunity for fraud.

1200 have not responded? hhhhmmm?

And TM says there is no problem.

It's in the link.

Supervisors, however, have loudly questioned the accuracy of the list, with one GOP supervisor going on Twitter to show the picture of a U.S. passport of one voter found on the list. Earlier this week two Democratic members of Congress held a press conference with a World War II veteran whose citizenship had been questioned.

No, it's not.

This...
A large percent of those to be removed have responded that they are in fact citizens eligible to vote.

does not equal this...

nowhere in the FOX link does it state or even imply that A large percent of those to be removed have responded that they are in fact citizens eligible to vote.

there is no problem that requires stripping legal voters of their right to vote.

The republican party has been caught red heanded doing just this many times

Well yabut, what if BUYING the election doesn't work this time?

Yeah, I know - it worked for the shrub his first time but what if too many people see what the crooked, anti-American traitors are trying to pull? What if too many see the Koch-suckers for what they really are?

Better to have this ace in the hole. Get rid of a few million eligible voters and pretend that voter suppression is the American way.

21%, from 1 county, does not constitute a 'large percentage' of a state.

Unless Obama wants to send in Federal troops, Florida can tell Obama to fuck off. I doubt Obama is going to send in federal troops. That would make a great impression on the voters of Florida, wouldn't it?

Do they MEET State criteria? All States aren't the same TdM.

But YOU knew that didn't you?

WHERE in the Constitution does it give the RIGHT of Citizens to VOTE in a Federal Election?
