Feds order Florida to halt ongoing push to remove ineligible voters from rolls

A large percent of those to be removed have responded that they are in fact citizens eligible to vote.

Prove it, please.

- 1638 people in Miami-Dade County were flagged by the state as “non-citizens” and sent letters informing them that they were ineligible to vote.

- Of that group, 359 people have subsquently provided the county with proof of citizenship.

- Another 26 people were identified as U.S. citizens directly by the county.

- The bulk of the remaining 1200 people have simply not responded yet to a letter sent to them by the Supervisor of Elections.

James Lee's testimony

On 17 April 2001, James Lee testified, before the McKinney panel, that the state had given DBT the directive to add to the purge list people who matched at least 90% of a last name. DBT objected, knowing that this would produce a huge number of false positives (non-felons).[7]

Lee went on saying that the state then ordered DBT to shift to an even lower threshold of 80% match, allowing also names to be reversed (thus a person named Thomas Clarence could be taken to be the same as Clarence Thomas). Besides this, middle initials were skipped, Jr. and Sr. suffixes dropped, and some nicknames and aliases were added to puff up the list.

"DBT told state officials", testified Lee, "that the rules for creating the [purge] list would mean a significant number of people who were not deceased, not registered in more than one county, or not a felon, would be included on the list. DBT made suggestions to reduce the numbers of eligible voters included on the list". According to Lee, to this suggestion the state told the company, "Forget about it".

"The people who worked on this (for DBT) are very adamant... they told them what would happen", said Lee. "The state expected the county supervisors to be the failsafe." Lee said his company will never again get involved in cleansing voting rolls. "We are not confident any of the methods used today can guarantee legal voters will not be wrongfully denied the right to vote", Lee told a group of Atlanta-area black lawmakers in March 2001.[8]

U.S. Judge Opposes Republicans on Elections

By JOHN SCHWARTZ

Published: December 2, 2009

The Republican National Committee will not be able to use election tactics that have been linked to suppression of voting by racial minorities without court supervision, a federal judge in New Jersey has ruled.

The measures, known as “ballot security” programs, were the subject of a lawsuit between the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee that ended with a consent decree in 1982. Under the agreement, some election tactics could only be used with court approval, including the creation of voter challenge lists, photographing voters at the polls and posting off-duty police and sheriffs officers at the polls in minority precincts.

The restrictions on the Republican National Committee were extended by the courts to cover the nation in 1987.

Has it ever occurred to you that nobody ever clicks these worthless links you put in every post you make?

If you aren't smart enough to interpret, digest and summarize what you're reading, stop posting those fucking links.

Bitches bitchin' about someone posting links.

The nutters here are guilty of attempting to suppress the vote. They cannot, as a result of their tradition of excluding groups of people and legislating in favor of wealthy corporate interests, garner any meaningful support from minorities, young people or the poor. So, they have a need to discount their votes.

Assholes.

This administration has sued more states to stop enforcement of federal law than any other administration in history. Now the regime's handlers might think that suing a state will make the voters of that state more likely to vote for them. They would be wrong. Suing a state generally pisses off the voters of that state.

obama is like a deranged husband who says to his wife "What do you mean you don't love me anymore. I beat you every day what more do you want?"

Well there you go, if they've responded then they are not "to be removed." That was the point of the mailing in the first place, and it's worked exactly as intended. If a response is received there is no further action taken to remove anyone from the elligable voter's lists.

So you've just proved that what was intended is actually happening. What's the problem?

It's in the link.

Supervisors, however, have loudly questioned the accuracy of the list, with one GOP supervisor going on Twitter to show the picture of a U.S. passport of one voter found on the list. Earlier this week two Democratic members of Congress held a press conference with a World War II veteran whose citizenship had been questioned.

Maybe your math isn't quite up to par, but please explain to me how that is "a large percentage...." Thanks in advance.

Rick

If Florida had not discriminated in the past they would not have to abide by the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which restricted some states right to determine how to set voting standards in their states without Federal approval.

But since they are under Federal law they must abide by the DOJ.

From what I have read the objection of the DOJ is the method of the process. The possibility some citizens will be denied their right to vote in this process is very real. If someone moved and did not fill out a change of address card the post office will not forward letters. Therefore they would be purged.

A) No evidence AT ALL there IS a fraud problem this would cure. Would only take out the poor, poor elderly, and young, ie Dems.

Brought to you by the same BSers that said ACORN stole the election, or indeed led to a SINGLE fraudulent vote...50% of Pub dupes believe they stole the 2008 election...(by their min wage workers trying to get paid for made up names on their lists)...LOL UNBELIEVABLE chumps...

Sure a lot of people could be purged but hey, they GOP doesnt care. Let's add more hurdles to voting. And if people cant jump those hurdles, answer their mail etc their citizenship means diddly

ROFL! That isn't proof of anything. Sleazy Democrats will always question anything that threatens their grip on power.

I saw two people listed out of 2600 that have been shown to be citizens. I don't think that number qualifies as a large percent. Could you point out where the large percent is listed?

Its acceptable to deny the vote to eligible voters so long as its only a small amount?

Where does it say that in the Constitution?
