Waylon Jennings, who lost the coin toss, stated that he was very dissapointed that he had to ride in the freezing bus, so his parting remark to Buddy was "I hope your damn plane crashes!", Waylon Jennings claimed this remark has haunted him ever since then. the plane could only seat four

I always thought the whole thing was overrated...

I thought the loss of Otis Redding was much bigger...

It's a loss whenever we lose an artist. Because so many people have these artists in their lives, the loss is felt more acutely than a movie star. Our lives, especially when the AM radio started to be put into cars, are lived with the sounds of music in the background. The music became a part of our lives and by transference the artists themselves.

I always wonder what music is forever lost that these artists may have given us. Many have been taken, Hank Williams, Sr., Ricky Nelson, Patsy Cline, Otis Redding, Jim Croce, Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray Vaughan ... the list goes on.

But today is the big three's day. May they will always be remembered.

Jennings?? I always heard it was Niki Sullivan (guitar), Joe B. Mauldin (bass), and Jerry Allison (drums).

the story goes The song had its genesis in a trip to the movies by Holly, Allison and Sonny Curtis in June 1956. The John Wayne film The Searchers was playing. Wayne's frequently-used, world-weary catchphrase, "that'll be the day" inspired the young musicians.
